This Colonial Revival design was built in 1907 to house wealthy San Franciscans fleeing the City after the Great Quake of 1906. It has two 1,400 SF 3bd/2ba and two 1,100 SF 2bd/1ba units. Due to fears regarding future earthquakes, the house, designed by one of the famous Newsom architects, is built like a rock. It features 9 foot Ceilings in all units. Two fireplaces (gas) in each unit, and a warm welcoming design. All units are sunny, with interior french doors and many original period details.
Neighborhood Description
This neighborhood is an "up and coming" part of the East Bay community that borders Emeryville, North Oakland, and Berkeley, combining the best of all worlds when it comes to diversity, commute-ability, walk-ability, weather, and great ethnic restaurants. Where else can you walk down the street to the best Chilean, Japanese, Indian, Southern Soul, or Ethiopian food? We moved here in 2006 and absolutely love it.
Our neighbors are great, it is safer than Rockridge, warmer than Berkeley and Albany (no fog in the Summer), but cooler than the Southern and Eastern communities, and more welcoming than any community we've experienced. Like many of the blocks in the Sixties, there is a mix of older retirees, young families , and middle aged single professionals. Many of us have Summertime Block Parties and enjoy creating a community that knows and supports each other. We have nothing but great things to say about this part of the East Bay!
 

What I love about the home

As you can see by the "Make Me Move" price, we love this property. It will take a lot for us to give it up. The neighborhood is GREAT! It is safer than Rockridge, easy for commuters to SF, Oakland, and East, and is in an area of Berkeley/Oakland where you don't need a car. You can easily walk to Whole Foods or Berkeley Bowl, many great restaurants, and BART. This property has many opportunities. The attic is unfinished and there is the opportunity to build down, expanding existing units, or providing underground parking.
