My Notes

Edit
Elegant Victorian home on the Historic District, across from Halifax Square & next to the beautiful Brunswick Manor Bed and Breakfast. Tastefully restored. Beautiful hardwood floors throughout. Three large bedrooms upstairs, claw foot tubs, resurfaced basins, double parlors with pocket doors, original lighting fixtures, chandeliers, ceiling fans, nice foyer, open staircase, formal dining room, eat-in in kitchen with new electric ceramic stove w/self cleaning oven, Bosch dishwasher, double door Fridge/Freezer w/ice maker, pantry, Stack washer/dryer, and 5 fireplaces with original mantels. Original house siding is pest resistant cedar plank. Wrap-around front verandah with columns. Detached garage sits next to storage shed on fenced-in large lot.

What I love about the home

Truly a balance of historic & contemporary, the 123 yr old Ralston House, stands as a testament of earlier times when a house remained in one family for decades. The Ralston Sisters remained in the house until the 1970's. Within the next 25 years, 2 other owners occupied the house & the current fourth owner brought the house into the 21st century. Rarely can one find a historic home that contains so many original features: 2 resurfaced bathroom basins, original light fixtures from when electricity was installed, bead board paneling, numerous panels of wavy antique window glass, original fireplace mantels, original door rim locks, & double parlors divided by original pocket doors. A photo showing the 3 Ralston Sisters standing in front of the original façade shows both upper & lower porches is invaluable for a true historian who may want to take the front façade to its original configuration. Yet the home has been brought into the present century w/the additional of an architectural shingle roof & an enchanting teal w/red trim exterior over original cedar plank siding. Besides rewiring the home, new circuit breakers & box were installed as well as the latest energy saving dual HVAC systems, & a security & fire alarm system. The cozy kitchen has a side seating dining area w/a window overlooking the large yard. Energy saving appliances were also installed in the kit. & include a Bosch dishwasher, a side by side refrigerator/freezer w/filtered ice maker, a ceramic cook top stove w/a huge self-cleaning oven, & a space saving stack washer/dryer. The home envelops you in history. The antique window panes create a looking glass to the front veranda overlooking the historic Halifax Square w/the tall graceful palms & majestic live oaks dripping in Spanish moss. Sounds of nature abound w/the myriad of birds & flitting squirrels to relax you. Live close to all necessities but apart from the hectic modern world.
