My Notes

A triple-mint Manhattan masterpiece recently redesigned by architect Robert A.M. Stern, this magnificent apartment is unlike any other home in New York. With generous light-filled rooms, this tastefully appointed full-floor residence is complete with a chef's kitchen and beautiful Park views.
This magnificent sundrenched apartment encompasses the entire 12th floor and has an elevator which opens directly into its spacious marble lobby. Windows on all four sides afford fabulous views of sunrises and sunsets. It was built as part of the original triplex penthouse reserved for the building's owner, and last purchased in 2008. The new owners commissioned Robert A.M. Stern to personally redesign this one-of-a-kind home, which combines classic pre-war elegance with all the latest modern luxuries.
No expense was spared to ensure the renovation of this four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath co-op was to the highest level. Each room was soundproofed, and the walls were specially reinforced to support art. The walls were given a full level-five finish before being custom painted or wallpapered by specialist artisans. The apartment features exquisite millwork throughout, custom-designed by Robert A.M. Stern. Modern conveniences include iPad-controlled sound, light and climate systems; a state-of-the-art security system; hardware by Guerin, Sheryl Wagner and Lefroy Brooks; and automated shades and lighting. An environmental consultant advised on the top-of-the-line Carrier central air conditioning and water filtration systems to make this home environmentally conscious. A large storage unit is included.
The spectacular curved marble entrance foyer is framed by ionic columns and leads into the grand living room. The living room features Stern-designed bookshelves and a marble fireplace, polished walnut wood floors and stucco lustro walls with natural beeswax burnish. The spacious adjoining dining room is accented by a stunning curved gold wall.
The sunny kitchen, extremely bright thanks to ample western exposure, has a gorgeous marble slab and white wood design with a royal blue island in the middle. It boasts SubZero refrigerators and wine cooler, a stunning La Cornue range with a matching venting hood specially designed by Robert A.M. Stern, Wolf and Gaggenau cooktop and ovens, two sinks, a generous pantry, and a work area with a desk. A chef from the French Culinary Institute consulted on the design and layout. The upper storage is accessed via a rolling ladder rail system custom-built by storied 100-year-old ladder-maker Putnam Rolling Ladder Co. With unheard-of-for-New York storage space throughout the kitchen, laundry room and walnut-and-brass butlers pantry, it is truly a chef's dream kitchen, and can easily cater parties of 200 guests. Inset double doors along the hallway gallery allow the kitchen and master suite areas to be closed off for added privacy while entertaining.
A domed oval entryway leafed in white gold leads into the serene master suite, an airy retreat nestled high above the bustle of the City. Curved doors open onto an expansive master bedroom with sweeping Park Avenue views, enormous his and hers walk-in-closets (his in walnut, hers in pale burled maple), and elegantly appointed his and hers bathrooms complete with radiant heated floors. Her bath has a tented ceiling, pink quartz Sheryl Wagner hardware and a vanity of rare snow onyx. The grand walnut-paneled library calls to mind the library of an English castle. It features curved bookshelves and a second brass-and-walnut ladder rail system that accesses the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and concealed storage encircling the room.
A residence of this caliber, so thoughtfully designed by a world-renowned architect, is a rare find indeed.
