The property is located in Durham County on the edge of Chapel Hill, in a gated development called Maida Vale. Creekside Elementary School is adjacent to the development, and the location is very convenient to Chapel Hill, RDU, Duke and RTP. The house is a 2-story Italianate villa set in an acre of expertly landscaped gardens, and includes a pool, patio, built in barbecue, guest house, and 3-car garage. The house is spacious, serene and very comfortable, and the neighborhood very quiet. The house is built of autoclaved aerated concrete - very solid, and unusual for the area. The main building has 4,611 sq ft, and the guest house 750 sq ft. The outside finish is stucco, inside plaster, with floors of oak (tile in bathrooms and laundry), tall ceilings, granite countertops in kitchens and laundry, and marble in bathrooms. The ground floor has the main living room, dining room, kitchen, library/office, powder room, and main bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs has a second living room, 3 bedrooms, each with bathroom; large laundry; powder room; and a screened balcony facing the street. All the rooms (except bathrooms) have ceiling fans. All the bedrooms have built-in closets and there are 2 separate linen storage closets upstairs. The guest house has a full kitchen, living room, bedroom, laundry, and bathroom. The pool measures 23 x 23 ft, has swim jets and gas heating, is set in a large patio deck of limestone tiles. The pool equipment includes an automatic salt chlorinator. The garden, fenced in the rear, is very private with lawns, trees and shrubs, and includes a herb garden and large gazebo of 166 sq ft. All Durham City services are connected, plus a natural gas backup generator that can supply power to the entire house.
