What does it mean to "post a home for sale"?
It means anyone who is selling a home can add that information — "post it to the site" — on Zillow, for free.
Who can post homes for sale on Zillow?
Homeowners and real estate agents are the primary folks who post homes for sale on Zillow, but actually, anyone can do it. For example, if your neighbor's house is on the market, but you notice it's not yet on Zillow, you can assist them by posting it for sale. Or, if your parents' home is for sale and they don't have a computer, you can post it for them.
Why do you allow anyone to tell you a home is for sale?
Allowing anyone to tell us a home is for sale may seem a bit unusual, but it's really not. Think of a bulletin board at a community center that has information posted on it about babysitting services, homes for sale, and apartments for rent. Zillow's "Tell us a home is for sale" feature is just like a community bulletin board, only it's online.
If I'm a real estate agent, should I tell you a home is for sale, even if it's not my listing?
Since you have such an in-depth knowledge of the local real estate market, you can tell us about homes are for sale in your neighborhood. We do, however, encourage you to check with your brokerage or local MLS for rules and regulations.
OK, how do I tell you a home is for sale?
Just enter an address in our search box, follow the link to that property, then click on "Tell us it's for sale" at the top of the page. On the next screen, choose your role (owner, agent, or other) and enter the sale price. Once you click "Save," the home will be updated with the sale price and a link to your profile — and photo, if you uploaded one.
Why would I tell you a home is for sale?
Ultimately, to be a valued contributor in your real estate community. Community is all about asking questions and sharing information. Also, if you tell us a home is for sale, a link to your profile and photo — if you uploaded one — will appear with each home that you tell us is for sale. For real estate professionals, this is valuable free marketing exposure.
Do you allow commercial properties or businesses to be posted for sale?
Great idea, but at this time we only allow residential homes to be posted for sale.
How can I post my home for sale on Zillow?
Simply type the address of the home you want to post into the search field, click on the address and then the "Tell us it's for sale" link. Or, if you are the owner or listing agent, click the Post For Sale tab and walk through the posting process. You can enter as much information as you'd like. (Note: You will need to register before you can do this.)

Nothing. Zilch, zippo, nada. This service is free to everyone.
How can I post my home on Zillow if I can't even find it on your site?
You can post any home for sale in the U.S. or set a Make Me Move® price, even if the home is not currently in our database. As you go through the posting or Make Me Move process, just enter the address, identify the home's location on the map and the home will be added to the site.
What is the difference between "posting a home for sale" and "telling us it's for sale"?
For the "Tell us it's for sale" feature, the only requirement is to know the address and sale price. But, the ultimate control of the home details page is with the homeowner or agent. Homeowners and agents can post homes for sale and get many privileges in doing so, such as editing home facts, adding a description of the house, getting primary placement for uploaded photos, adding open house dates, being the contact for the home, and being in full control of the posting.
What is Make Me Move®?
Make Me Move is a free and easy way to tell others the price you'd be willing to sell your home for, without actually putting it on the market. It's the "dream price" you might accept if someone offered you that price.
How does Make Me Move work?
You set a Make Me Move price and then post it on your home for anyone to see. If anyone is interested in buying your home at that price, they can contact you anonymously via e-mail. Then it's up to you whether or not to sell your home. You do not have to supply your phone number or name; it's completely anonymous up until the time you respond to the interested buyer.
How do I set a Make Me Move price?
It's super easy. Just go to your home details page and click on "Set a Make Me Move price." You will only need to enter your Make Me Move price and your e-mail address. Anything else is optional. (Note: You will need to register and claim ownership of your home before you can do this.)
How can I find homes for sale on Zillow?
Easy. If you're interested in buying a home in a certain neighborhood, you can either:
- Enter the name of the neighborhood and city and state (e.g., "Queen Anne, Seattle, WA"), or
- Enter an actual address and then pan/drag the map around, or
- Enter a ZIP code and zoom in, then pan/drag the map, or
- Any combination of the above
Once you do this, you will see red flags that indicate "For Sale" homes, blue flags for "Make Me Move" homes and yellow for "Recently sold" homes. Click on the flags on the map to see more information about each house.
How does Zillow get these postings?
We get postings from owners and real estate agents, and community members who have come to Zillow and created them by using our easy posting and "tell us it's for sale" features, which are free for anyone to use.
A home in my neighborhood is for sale, but I don't see it on your site. Why?
We only know if a home is for sale if an owner, or real estate agent has entered that information on our site, or if the community reported it through the "Tell us it's for sale" feature. We do not obtain our postings from any other source. We encourage homeowners and real estate agents to post homes for sale on Zillow so they can gain additional marketing exposure among the millions of people who visit the site each month. It's completely free and easy to do!
How do I update information or add photos to my posting?
From your home details page, click "Edit posting info." Or from My Zillow, under Owner Tools, click "Edit posting info." From the "Update For Sale Posting" page, you can upload and edit photos, update home facts, add features and a description, add neighborhood and school info, and enter open house dates.
My home has an offer! How do I show this on Zillow?
From your home details page, click "Update posting status" and select "This home has a pending offer." Or from My Zillow, click "Owner Tools" and "Update posting status," then select "This home has a pending offer."
My home just sold! How do I remove the posting?
From your home details page, click "Edit status" and select "Sold." Or from My Zillow, click "Owner Tools" and "Update posting status," then select "Sold."
I want to take my house off the market — how do I remove the posting?
From your home details page, click "Edit status" and select "No longer for sale." Or from My Zillow, click "Owner Tools" and "Update posting status," then select "No longer for sale."
Why are old listings appearing on homes that are no longer for sale?
It's because the home's listing information came through an XML feed by a real estate brokerage, real estate agent, or a listings aggregator and the information was not updated from that source. Look at the provider of the "For Sale by" information on the home details page and contact that person to have the information updated for that home. Learn more about Zillow Listings Feed.
