This is the best school in the area for Pre-K through 8th grade in my opinion. The teachers are very respectful to the students and in turn the students are very respectful back. The children are taught to take control of their responsibilities and learn as much as they can. The students actually WANT to be there and want to learn. The way all schools should be. Carole

Very non child friendly school. They will kick your kid out of school if your continues crying for 2 weeks. Isn t that ridiculous? Teachers are not nice and kind. No smile on the face at all. When you drop off your kids the teachers just pass on the signature sheet to you for signature and no smiling and greetings. How can the people with this kind of personality be a teacher in preschool? Very depressive environment. Their teaching is very boring. If they feel they cannot control or manage your kid they will talk with you and say that your kid has this or that kind of problem. They have no patience and love and ability at all. Most of teacher are non-native speakers. They have very terrible accents. How can your kids pick up language under such a environment? Very cheap school. You have to bring in all supplies for your kid. The school doesn t provide anything. Hygiene problem. A kid was found to have HEAD LICE recently. OMG--- Horrible!
Please disregard the post(s) from the parent who commented on Sept. 21 2012. She is referring to a Hudson Montessori in Jersey City NJ not our beloved Hudson Montessori School in Hudson OH!!!! There is no one by the name of Grace Jolly at HMS in Ohio. HMS in Ohio is a fantastic school. I have two children in the Children's House. My husband and I couldn't be more pleased with their development.
Very horrible school! The teachers especially the director Grace Jolly are NOT patient at all. If your kid cries and they feel they can not calm him/her down they will throw the kids to their parents and ask you to bring the kid home. And If your kid cries for a couple of weeks continuously Grace Jolly will talk with you very seriously and try to persuade you not to come to school so often or withdraw from the school. The school only loves those obedient kids good kids. As a teacher and director Grace Jolly is NOT professional at all. She is a very moody person. Today you can see that she has smile on her face but tomorrow she will become very serious and not want to talk with you at all. I really doubt how she can treat kids with kindness and patience. The only thing for the school is to make money. You have to bring all supplies ( towels wipes hand sanitizers etc. more than 10 items) including SNACKS to school. The ridiculous thing is that each parent has to bring in snack for the entire class for the whole week on a rolling schedule. How can the parents know how much they are to bring in? This school is so cheap. They don t want to spend 1 cent. NOT go.
I was skeptical about sending my children to private school because of the cost and the fact that we have 5 children. I am able to say that HMS was the best decision my husband (both from the public school system) have ever made. We have two children in Children's House (PK) and both are excelling mentally and emotionally at a faster pace than other children we see. We are very involved in our children's education and look forward to the middle school experience. I think the children coming out of the middle school are much more prepared for an independent lifestyle and much more responsible and self confident. There is a cost associated with this school but that is all shared up front there are no hidden costs. Everyone has different priorities in life. That being said I think everyone reading this review should tour the school and ask parents and staff as many questions as possible.
Do not enroll you kids in this school or your bank account is at risk.
Our children have been at Hudson Montessori since preschool and have excelled in academics and life skills. The middle school program is progressive and serves the young adult very well. I would say there are as many gifted students (if not more) at the school as those needing remedial assistance. The difference with a Montessori education (especially at HMS) is the staff is PROactive as opposed to REactive. We have experienced an effort to identify possible learning issues BEFORE they were a problem. We couldn't be happier with our children's education from Hudson Montessori and feel it has been a bargain compared to other schools in the area.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Hudson Montessori School. The teachers staff and parents are like a family and every one of them has my children's and my family's best interest in mind. I have found them very understanding and flexible in regards to my parenting and our families needs while expertly educating my children in academics and in life. If you take some time to learn about how children learn and grow you will understand the genius behind the Montessori philosophy. My children have absolutely flourished in ways they never could have attending a traditional school and compared to other area private schools the tuition is a bargain. The best thing you can do is take a tour and see the school for yourself.
I have 3 children who attend this school in levels from Children's House to Upper Elementary. We have been very pleased with the school. I have to strongly disagree with the previous reviewer regarding gifted children. The school is wonderful for them. Our eldest was mathematically gifted (as identified by the school) but had reading issues. Public school would do nothing for him regarding his math skills till they felt his reading was dealt with which meant they were just going to let his gift languish. But at HMS they were able to set up a curriculum where he could do advance math while also taking remedial reading. Montessori style teaching is actually best for gifted children as it is a customizable curriculum. The whole school averages 2 grade levels above average on the state standardized testing. Ths is a verifiable fact. Definitely a top of the line school and worth every penny.
If your child is gifted it is not a good choice. The gifted children appear to be leaving the school more and more each year.
My child attended HMS for the preschool and K years ('Children's house'). They provide an outstanding and well-rounded learning environment. It is student-centered but well-managed. The teachers and principal are wonderful very concerned about your child's education. There is a real esprit de corps among the parents as well. I would note that 'Montessori' is not a copyrighted name and any school can describe themselves as such. However the Hudson school has trained Montessori teachers who use the methods providing one of the best Montessori schools in the state. I recommend it to you without hesitation.
Hudson Montessori is Hudson Ohio's best kept secret. My best advice is take a tour through the school and you will see why.
