I attended Concordia in the late 1970s and early 1980s after a very rough time in public school. I returned to volunteer my time as I have extensive education background and wanted to give back to a school that gave me a top notch education. Although the demographics of the school have changed the Christian love and values is evident in the teachers dedication to teaching. Please support Concordia and assist them with resources to continue to provide a top notch education with strong Christian values.

My son attended middle school at Concordia. In spite of the economic downturn Concordia kept up with the challenges of providing a first rate education. The teachers are dedicated to the whole person. The principal is accessible and treats the students like young men and women. I am very grateful that we came and would highly recommend Concordia to parents of young teens.

My children attended Concordia. The school is small and like a close knit family. Our biggest issues were the limited amount of academic resources and extracurricular programs offered (ie. library resources foreign language music computer classes and advanced classes etc.) and the small number of faculty members. I encourage families to tour the school. Be sure to ask lots of questions regarding teacher certification academics and how they encourage and monitor students' progress toward meeting grade-level standards. CLS faces some steep challenges; but they are always trying to find new ways to meet the needs of its students.

Concordia is an excellent school for parents who want a small classroom setting for their child to thrive. It provides a God-centered environment that values service mentorship personal responsibility independent thinking and family! My son loves his peers and respects his teachers.

My son attended concordia from preschool all the way through eighth grade. Overall it was an okay experience. Our family experienced many rough spots along the way though. First many of the teachers seem under-qualified . . . And the few who do have the qualifications have been teaching so long that they have lost all passion. Beware many of these older teachers have really bad attitude problems! the lack respect for their students but more importantly the parents. As far as the 'christian education' . . . Religion is all lost in complacent rituals and practices. The school has a religion class for all that seemed to beat christianity on the ground. Also warning to those who are not lutheran- this schools seems to place martin luther on to high a pedestal.

My son has attended Concordia since pre-school and has done extremely well. So well in fact that he scored highly on his high school placement test. He was accepted into a very challenging high school program. Well done Concordia!!!

Great school great teachers supporting administration. Rules and guidelines are clearly delineated. Some parents come in and want to change the school to fit their ideas--these would be unhappy. The school know its priorities--Jesus is the center of all that we do. Academic standards are set high and children are encouraged to do their best in all that they do. Communication between school and faculty is great--Monday notes tell all each week. No child is allowed to close down and stop doing work. Parents are called or informed frequently of behavior--both bad and good. It's a great place to entrust your precious child.

My daughter have been at Concordia for 6 years. They are now in 4th and 5th grade. We have been so pleased with the administration the teachers and the staff that we would not think of sending our girls anywhere else. Their academics far surpass those of other children in our neighborhood both attending public and private schools. It is the most wonderful learning evironment that we could have our children in to grow academically and and in their faith.

I am a parent of an 8th grade student who has been attending Concordia Lutheran School since Pre-K. I have absoultely enjoyed the time my child has had there. The school is small and family and Christ-centered so that has been a big plus. For me it has also helped that the teachers and the principal have had the opportunity to get to know my child and I mean really know him. He is not just another student the teacher's there are willing to work with you and your child if there is an area they are struggling in and they also a very good about recognizing the students good deeds and efforts of your child.

I am a parent of a child who has been attending Concordia since pre-kindergarten and is now in 6th grade. The school provides a good basic curriculum and I feel my daughter will be well-prepared for the move to high school. Although the work load can be high at times all of the teachers seem very organized and there is always plenty of fair warning for when things are due. The principal and teaching staff all appear to be very well-trained and are certainly very caring and supportive of the students. Class sizes are good and there is also some flexibility for dealing with students with special needs (e.g. ADHD). As both a parent and a professional (speech-language pathologist) I would highly recommend this school to prospective families.

i would recommend this school to everyone because they have great staff but some of the staff are very very very harsh on the dress code

I am a very involved parent. The Christian curriculum is very apparent and intentional. Teachers are truly dedicated and like any other school - of mixed ability. Principal and office staff are ineffectual and sometimes cause problems. The people making significant decisions about the school's direction and other larger matters often cannot see the forest for the trees. All adults involved truly care about the success of students so long as the students fit into the accepted mold. Our family will not be staying here because it is just not the right fit for us. But I recommend a visit for prospective families to aid their decision as it might be the right fit for them.

I am an alumni of the school as are my three children. The school provided my children with an excellent education and life-long friends. They learned in a Christian environment and they learned about community service. No school is perfect neither are the teachers or students but Concordia's faculty and staff work hard in cooperation with the parents in order to serve the children in the best possible way. I would recommend this school to anyone. It has been serving the Hyattsville community for over 65 years. It is accredited both through the Lutheran School system but also the State of Maryland.

My three children have attended Concordia from the time they started kindergarten (one child started in preschool) until they graduated from the 8th grade. I am very pleased with their education. Each of my children has been well prepared for highschool. My two sons were accepted into DeMatha Catholic High School and my daughter was accepted into Elizabeth Seton Catholic High School. Two of my children were placed in honors classes in their freshman years. The current principal is a great servant leader. He meets weekly with every class to discuss character building values appropriate for each age level. The school has an experience faculty with different teaching styles so the students are exposed to a variety of learning methods. A highlight of the 6th-8th grade experience is exposure to a variety of fine and performing arts.

My children have been going to Concordia for 5 years. They love the school their teachers and principal. The teachers are caring and accessible to parents. The fine arts progrom in the upper grades is wonderful. Classes are small and I would recommend it to everyone.

My daughter has just completed preschool at Concordia and has had a phenomenal year. The teachers have done activities that have spurred her imagination and touched all of her senses. Some of the highlights were the Thanksgiving Dinner that the class worked on together including making cranberry sauce pumpkin pie mashing potatoes snapping fresh green beans and learning how to set the table with real china and silverware. The children teachers and parents then sat down together at a long table and shared a meal. The kids learn all about their world through real experiences trips to the firehouse a grocery store library the nature center and walks in the neighborhood. There is lots of free play with structured learning that increases as the child matures over the course of the year. I can't say enough good things about this school.

I am both an alumn of the school and a parent of 2 children enrolled there for next year. While all schools have there shortcomings I have found Concordia to be fair and reasonable. They are especially strong in the Christian Education area (2 seperate congregations support the school). The dress code is much easier then the school my children previously attended. The principal is a dedicated educator the kids love him. My children have had a wonderful experience being part of this school 'family'

I am a current student here at Concordia. I must say that my school tries its best. Until 6th grade it was a mediocre experience. But that all changed. I would not recommend this school to anyone. They are also very stubborn with dress code and make petty and very unmanageable requests. Please pray for this disturbed school. I must also add that the teaching staff is not diverse.-a very miserable student
