The teacher to student ratio is incorrect. I have one child in first grade 1 27 ratio and my other child is in 3rd grade 1 26 ratio. This year we have a new principal as well as curriculum changes. If I were asked a year ago I would have rated the school a 10 this year a 3 at best. In fact I'm currently looking to buy a house somewhere else so my children no longer have to attend this school.

I have two daughters to go to Blackburn. Ones in first grade ones in 5th grade. Blackburn Elementary is top notch from the faculty to the teacher principal everybody is great.. would not have my kids in any other elementary school.
My daughter started going here 2 months into Kindergarten and is about to start 2nd grade there. I have yet to find anything to seriously complain about. I have loved all her teachers including summer school. They seem to really try to make each kid feel individual. We are moving after school starts this year and I'm trying very hard to stay in this school!
I love the communication folders that the kids bring home! But I found out Dr. Hunt Retired and was replaced by Laura LaCroix...
We came from the Blue Springs district and have found Blackburn to be a great fit for our family. Dr. Hunt is amazing in the fact that he knows pretty much every students name in the school. I was shocked ) The teachers are also great and easy to work with.
Blackburn is a truly exceptional elementary school. Dr. Hunt is one of the nicest funniest and caring principals I have ever met. The school excels from the laid back atmosphere. Parents are welcome in the classrooms to help out. The PTA is phenominal. Only one fund raiser a year! The PTA decorates constantly and has multiple school parties each semester. I love the communication folders that the kids bring home. I know exactly what is going on in their classroom everyday. We will be moving soon but I will dearly miss the wonderful loving and caring nature of this elementary school. I doubt I will find another like it.
All four of my daughters attended Blackburn Elementary. I feel that Blackburn supported students and families educationally as well as socially and emotionally. Blackburn gave my daughters a strong foundation in which to buid their lives and education. My fourth daughter's last day at Blackburn Elementry befor entering middle school was truely a very emotional day for all of us. It was hard to say good-bye to a school that had become a part of our family.
Blackburn Elementary is a great school. I went there from kindergarden to 5th grade. I really enjoyed all my years there. I still go up there and do volunteer work for some of the teachers.
My son has attended this school for 6 years and has excelled. It is a wonderful school to attend there is alot of parent involvement and the teachers are wonderful. We are looking forward to our other son starting kindergarten next year.
My children have attended Blackburn for 7 years. The principal is fantastic the teachers care about each of their students the students are well-behaved and my children are thriving. Parental involvement is high.
