Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA)

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

I am a proud 2012 graduate of Johnstown High School. I wouldn't have chosen any other school to go to. The teachers and other staff members go above and beyond to help the students succeed. The school provides so many opportunities for students to excel in the things they are interested in doing for their future. They are one of the only schools that provide shop classes and many more untraditional classes. They also have many clubs that primarily focus on giving back to the community. The school doesn't just provide a well rounded education it also helps to keep its students involved by giving them opportunities to volunteer their free time to help the community and less fortunate or giving them sports and other extra activates after school. If I had to choose a school in the area to send my children to it would be Johnstown High School.

My daughter is an honor student at Greater Johnstown High School and I could not be more pleased with her overall experience in the Johnstown School District. As a sophomore next year she will have classes that will help her earn advanced college credit. She is involved in wonderful extracurricular activies including service clubs music groups sports and theatre. The diversity of the school district gives her real life experiences and she is receiving a well rounded education.

Johnstown Central High School is a wonderful school. We are new to the area and the staff there has been nothing but helpful and kind. Coming from Northern Virginia I was worried that my son would not receive a quality education here but so far his experience there has been nothing but positive. It has a new facility and is state of the art so I am impressed with the job the city is doing with regards to making education job #1. Keep it up!
