I am so unimpressed with this school. The teachers leave a lot to be desired. The building itself is nice...but academically I cannot believe how far behind my child is since being there for two years. There are cultural programs.. but only if you are Tlinget. There is bullying happening to black children and children who are believed to be gay. Diversity programs might be better than a cultural program that caters to only 1 culture. The principal is worried about how things look... but she's not doing the work part of her job. Can anyone recommend a better school? Am I gonna have to home school my child?

great school and philosophy. The school has an awesome principal who started a breakfast program and has pushed for diversity and making it so all children are accepted and excel. The school has special education kids in all of the classes and contrary to what the other review says all kids are challenged. My child is a GT white kid and I love the fact that she is in school and class with so many cultures. My children LOVE Ms. Katasse and the staff at Riverbend!
This school has several excellent teachers however the principal of the school leaves a lot to be desired. The school is clean and well kept. Unfortunately as with most public schools the classes tend to be geared towards the least capable students rather than challenging them to excel by setting the standards higher.
