Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP)

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

When I went to another school out of state the things I learned there were amazing. On the other hand at SVCFE it would take me a year to learn a days work at my other school.

I love the staff and the openness to have parent volunteers.

My daughter went to Spring Valley for PEEP and we had a great experience. The teachers were wonderful and she learned a lot that year. 6 weeks into kindergarten however we are transferring her to a new school because the curriculum is at a very low standard. What she learned in PEEP was a higher level than what she is doing now. We really like her teacher but the school standard for learning is way too low.

Spring Valley Elementary is a very special school. Over the past years it has been molded and worked into a fine tool for teaching. It has dedicated teachers parents office secretary and a principal who has wisely guided the school's development. The principal Mr.Kevin Campbell is the core of the school & the reason that it has become such a fine school. His dedication and hard work have helped to encourage & led the school to obtain its present position. It is a school I am presently proud to send my children to and proud to volunteer at. Under his leadership I think it will finally begin to show some fruit of all the years of hard work. There are many great plans for this coming year that should make this an even greater school & one that will contine to draw families into our school.
