For real estate aficionados who like to use ZipRealty and Zillow.com together, here's a shortcut created by a guest author that will take the work out of cutting and pasting URLs from Zip to Zillow in order to get a Zestimate. (Thanks, Ron!)
How does it work?
First you need to set up an account with ZipRealty and save a "bookmarklet," then you'll be doing Zip-2-Zillow in no time flat.
- Go to www.ziprealty.com and create an account. (You must have an account to see details on homes for sale.)
- Go to http://cleverjunk.blogspot.com and add the bookmarklet in an easy-to-find place in your browser. The bookmarklet is the text link circled below.
- To add the bookmarklet:
- Internet Explorer: Right-click on the Zip-2-Zillow link and choose "Add to favorites...." You will get a security alert box that says, "You are adding a favorite that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?" (IE asks this for Favorites that run JavaScript.) Click "Yes." Once the Favorites window appears, scroll to the "Links" folder and click "OK." This will add the bookmarklet to the "Links" folder.
- Firefox: Drag the hyperlink from the browser address field to your links toolbar. A file named "Junk" will appear, but just right-click on it to rename it Zip-2-Zillow or anything else that you'd like.
- Go to ZipRealty.com. Click on a home you're interested in. If you want to see the Zestimate and other information on the home, click on the Zip-2-Zillow bookmarklet that you saved in your links toolbar:
- Voila! You are now on the corresponding page on Zillow.com. If you'd like to go back to the ZipRealty page, just click your "Back" button.
