California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

School has great education standards etc. but my gay son was bullied and taunted for being who he is and staff parents and students all offered to pray with him for a 'cure.' If you are happy with a very narrowly focused narrow-minded school this could be right for you

I'm a new student to RVCS and honestly my experience here has been absolutely amazing! I get top notch education and I come here knowing that my Educators all have Masters Degrees and are more than qualified to teach. Not only that the Instructors are definitely One-of-a-Kind. They are the nicest most caring teachers I have ever met. You can tell they are Passionate about their subject. The Staff is amazing the kids are awesome and treat each other with respect. There is ABSOLUTELY NO bullying here whatsoever. I feel so welcomed here. However the campus could use a touch up. Other than that the school has met all of my standards.

I cannot say that River Valley is for everyone but I would like to. It is most likely one of the best schools in the country. A loving expert staff; accepting intelligent yet fun-loving students - RV has all these qualities. And not to mention this school is award winning. I absolutely love my school. It is not perfect but it is great.

We love this school! The culture of the school is a very happy safe effective learning environment.

Wow! What a fantastic small school. Highest API score in SD County

I've attended River Valley since my freshmen year and my first to years were great but my junior we got a new principal and for lack of words she is horrible. She favors the kids that have been kept under lock and key. SHe is very strict and is making my senior year hell!! other then her River Valley is truly the best school the teacher are great and so are the kids.

As a newer River Valley parent (2008-2009 school year) I have found the administration and teachers to be fabulous! I have heard the rumors of the transition of the administration and office staff from the previous years but have no experience directly with these issues. I think the current staff are doing an excellent job and will only get better with the coming school years! As for diversity I see more diversity and inclusion at River Valley than other local high schools. One of the best things (besides academics) about River Valley is the atmosphere of safety and inclusion. All students are welcomed and respected; not only by their fellow students but also by the school staff. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL!

River Valley Charter is an exceptional award winning school offering the highest academic scores and achievements for those who are interested in combining a public and homeschool environment. The children who attend are respectful and well-behaved. The teachers truly care for each student and demonstrate their concern by offering individualized tutoring and communicating well with the parents. Their student to teacher ratio is only 18 1 which is invaluable to the student. If there is a downside I haven't found it. This school is not recommended for children who do not want an education or for parents who are unable to homeschool their child on the independent study days. It is the perfect blend of technology acdemics and support served up in an atmosphere of peaceful safety where children smile. I have the best experience with the administration of this school

I have been going to River Valley for three almost four years now. From the very first day of 7th grade the teachers were welcoming and very kind. The environment is so great here and the students are always friendly. Even though we have a new prinicple our school is still doing better than ever. I feel so lucky to attend this school! All the students that go here want to go here and enjoy this learning environment. Beause of this school I have become very excited to start college and expand my horizons. This is a great school and there isn't anything bad to say about it.

I have to say that I am extremely happy with River Valley and the fact that the principal is so involved with the kids. Most principals at public schools are untouchable. Unless of course your child is in trouble! I love the fact that the kids are allowed to express themselves tastefully. School is a place of learning . No one is judged by what they wear or what style they wear as long as it remains appropriate. I know what it's like to raise a child in the public school system and River Valley is a Blessing. My child does not have to go to this school We choose to have her go here. She really likes the principle and all of her teachers. She's already excited about college thanks to the schools counselor. It just doesn't get any better than this!!!!!!!

The administration of River Valley Charter School is implementing policy that has been part of River Valley for years but that has previously been neglected and not enforced. Unfortunately people do not recognize that a small school environment that crosses six grade levels needs to be a welcoming place for all students. Parents enjoy knowing that this school fosters a culture of acceptance. When behavior is unacceptable such as violating the dress code students are asked to modify the unacceptable behavior. Students and parents are asked to read the Parent/Student Handbook on the school website which details and covers everything parents and students need to know about this school. If students do not like this school's policies they need to understand that River Valley is a school of choice. The River Valley Charter School Council faculty and staff appreciate and support the job the current administration is doing.

River Valley is an exceptional public hybrid home school. Although our principal is new she is doing a fantastic job considering California's school budget and it's limitations. For example we have yearbook ASB painting sculpture guitar vocal assemble art history high school sports and for 11th and 12th graders they can attend community college for free. RV operates as a college preparatory so we only have core curriculum classes two days a week. When your core classes end or it is your off day you study at home or participate in extra curricular activities (like ice skating) on your own time. There are no before and after school programs like AM/PM or 6 to 6 because our hybrid home school is for 7th through 12th graders and we need to go home and enjoy our free time or do homework. I hope you find my review helpful. Hannah (3rd yr student).

The Administration is doing a horrible job at that school. There are little extracurricular and the students have little to no enjoyment in attending there!

I love the small classes and the teachers are cool.

The teachers care the class sizes are small the campus is like a summer camp.

Excellent school. My daugther is nuumber 1 there and since she attends at river valley she is a better teen

River Valley has been absolutely great for us. However this is not a school where 1) parents aren't willing to be involved or 2) the kid doesn't want to attend. We've loved every minute of being here but if your child wants a traditional big public high school this is definitely not the place.

I attend River Valley Charter and enjoy it immensly- I will be in 10th grade for the 2006-2007 school year. Although the workload is intense the teachers are helpful and involved which makes the work much less of a burden. Despite the reputation of being hard to get into River Valley does accept nearly all students that apply. If you call you might be told that there is a waiting list but usually everyone that wants to go gets in just fine. -- Lauren Petruccelli

River Valley had the highest API in San Diego County last year. My children have received a quality education and personal attention that is hard to find elsewhere. Parent involvement is a requirement of enrollment.

The learning experience at River Valley High exceeds the standards. This school not only provides students with an education but it also prepares them for college. It is a friendly atmosphere and very family orientated. It is a great choice!
