California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

Unfortunately we moved into the area and were looking forward to having a great experience with this school. My son was in the afterschool program (Kids Club) and within 2 months he was hurt due to playgroung activity yet no one noticed until I arrived to the school and gasped at his face. When asked what happened I was told by the adults that they didn't know and his face wasn't like that 5 minutes ago...though he had not been outside for well over 30 minutes according to the log sheet. The next month I received a phone call from the school asking if I had picked my son up. The worst call a parent can ever get. I explained that I had not picked him up... I was told that some of the "kids" said they saw him leave with someone else when asked how long had he been missing I was told 15 minutes but we'll continue to look for him and call you back! ABSOLUTELY NOT! I called the office and asked what was going on...while speaking to the office I received a call from Kids Club stating "oh we found him he was in the office" which was 6 doors down. When I explained my disdain to the principal she just say "oh sorry to hear that". I withdrew him the next day! We won't be back!

Unfortunately the last post was extremely inaccurate. This was a parent whom did not get what they wanted and wanted to put down the school. I have had 2 children attend this school with my last one in 5th grade this year. All correspondence goes home in childrens backpacks and by phone. If you don't check backpacks you're not going to get information until after the fact. The PTA has an open treasurer's report at every meeting for viewing and they don't spend any money on an end of the year party for themselves. The money is for classroom parties.

This school is in a cycle of decline due to poor leadership by the new principal. Communication to parents came almost exclusively from the PTA and was unorganized with wrong dates or after the fact. Communication from the principal and teachers was almost non-existent. The school boasts a music program science fair and strong PTA but the reality is that the music program had 4 students--2 trumpets a clarinet and a flute--the 400 member PTA had 10-15 people actually involved and science fair never had any "fair"--just turn in the project and then pick it up weeks later with a participation medal. Participation in what? The PTA board runs the school. They are a small group of friends who do not share any information regarding how money is spent. They spent $2000 on themselves for a PTA conference and $400 for their own board end of year party while allocating only $350 for the school wide Science Fair (which was non-existent). At the end of the year I attended other open houses at nearby schools to compare. The first graders seemed to be about 1/2 year behind the other schools. My child is no longer attending this school as we would like her to attend college one day.

Cleveland Elementary is an amazing school because of the great dynamic between parents students and faculty. We are truly a family at Cleveland and our fearless leader Mrs. Drysdale is at the center of all things that benefit our children. PTA plays a GIANT role at Cleveland and with their support our school continues to thrive despite the huge budget cuts that the entire distict faces. CLEVELAND ROCKS!!!!

The teachers and staff at Cleveland are amazing for my daughter and the extracurricular activities (Kids' Club Girl Scouts etc.) that are available for her are so beneficial for her growth. Also despite the hardships the school district is going through Cleveland still manages to thrive! I cannot wait to send her younger sister there next year.

I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!! I went to this school all through my elementary years and I loved it. All the teachers took very good care of each and every student. Many of the teachers I had as a kid still remember who I am! They really encourage you to keep doing better! I am now a parent to a 2 year old and hopefully I can get her into this school once shes ready for elementary school. For now my godson goes here and he seemed to have really struggled on certain subjects at his old school but since hes switched over to Cleveland his ability to retain the knowledge and be more interested in school has really changed. I am SO glad he goes here! There are plenty of activities and opportunities available to the students. Best thing that happened to me. I have a great life now! =]

We have been very happy with Cleveland elementary. Our son immigrated from the Philippines 3 years ago and due to over crowding at our home school we were sent to Cleveland. The first few weeks in 1st grade our son was having some discipline problems at Cleveland. As parents we were worried about our child being successful at school. I met with the principal Julie Drysdale and she had a plan to correct the situation with involvement of the school and parents at home. I was truly amazed at how quickly our son changed and has had zero problems since. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the principal and teachers who have taught our son through grades 1 to 3. Our son gets good grades and always looks forward going to school. Thank you Cleveland.

Cleveland School is absolutely fantastic!! My first grade daughter has a very caring professional and hard working teacher. Mrs. Grabowski has been a fantastic influence in my daughter s life her knowledge of curriculum and ability to make it accessible to students is extraordinary. Mrs. Drysdale the pricinpal is amazing. She is very caring with students communicates easily with families and manages the school site like a seasoned pro. Cleveland is a very welcoming environment for all students including the many special education students who attend this school. Cleveland has great school spirit with assemblies students look forward too with great excitement. Can t say enough good things about this school.

Cleveland Elementary is an excellent school. They have a very caring environment and all of the students are challenged based on their individual abilities. The PTA also provides many activities. Some are for character building and some are just for fun and to show their appreciation to the students and staff for all of their hard work. If you want to find a school which is like part of the family then Cleveland is the place for you.

It is very structured school really cares about there kids and there needs. I transferred my kids from a private school to this school due to its academic structure. I really regret not having them there early in there education. I am very thankful for the help that they r giving my children and the comfort they provide to me as a parent knowing that they r in goods hands.
