California Standards Test (CST)

In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

Can't say that it's the perfect school but what school is? I can say that my children and I have learned many life lessons here...and they weren't all positive but most definitely lessons learned here. That is all.

The teachers at Holmes work so hard! You can tell that they care for their students and want them to do well.

Holmes is a great school with strong leadership and curriculum focus. I am a member of the PTO and it is amazing!

my son is a student there he as well as other students say the teacher eats in class in front of them and yells at them. So my wife went to the School to talk to the teacher and heard her yelling at them from outside The door. Maybe it's called very loud talking you be the judge .. Very good after school program boys and girls club. I like that the school Gives Awards to the students every few months but gives the parents 1 or 2 Day notice (.

This is my daughters first year attending school. She is in kindergarten and her teaher is excellent. Dr. Koga is very supportive of parental concerns and i will keep my child there as long as possible.

Our oldest son attended Holmes frm K to 5th grade. During these years we have gone through several Principals. Dr. Koga is now the Principal for Holmes. She has made a BIG different in Holmes. She's a wonderful great and cares about your students. We need more caring Principal Counselors and Teachers like Dr. Koga.

    excellent school! good teachers

My two children have gone here for 2 years now starting 2nd and 4th grade fall 07. Some teachers are excellent while others seem to be more harm than good. The principle seems unaffected and incapable of managing staff and programs. There is no bully control as offenders are given no discipline and are not removed from situations where they cause issues. Parent involvement seems non-existent.

My child is in the 2nd grade and the homework she receives is excessive. It takes us anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hrs a night. As a working mother this is very hard. I agree with homework but there needs to be a limit.

The teachers are great to name a few Mrs Valenzuela Ms Chapman and Mr Hegamin but the office staff needs a lot of work. When you make requests either in person or in writing they seem to be ignored. This is not a good way to encourage parent involvement if the parents wishes are disregarded.

I'm very happy with the new after school program and staff. Ms.Lona Johnson is a very straight forward team leader who shows respect to everyone and is also liked very much by her students. We are very happy to have Ms. Lona. She has showed a big improvement from last years after school staff. Thank you to all who have made this change )

I feal the after school program is not very well cordinated as to doing homework and showing any kind of disapline. I was not very happy with this years after school program. The children were always out of control when I went to pick up my child. I hope this coming year the Principal shows some kind of involment to how the after school program is ran. It's a free program which is great for parents who ca not afford daycare but should that mean that our children should not be watched properly. A very concerned parent...

The academic programs at Holmes are excellent. My son's fifth grade teacher was very good. He made learning interesting and used 'real world' hands on teaching. Overall the principal has a vision her mission statement 'The elementary school with the university vision'. My son knew what year he should graduate from high school and college. She really encouraged vision in the children which I think is lacking in many of our schools.

My son attended Homes from 1rst grade thru 5th and now my daughter is attending Holmes and has been there since kindergarten. I love this school and how they are great with building the kids self-esteem and preparing them for college at an early age. I would recommend this school to everyone. My son is now entering high school and I am appreciative of the investment that Holmes has given him and is now giving my daughter.

Holmes Preschool has the highest quality teachers primarily Mrs Pittman who has been a Teacher at that school for so long. She is excellent in what she does and how she teaches her students. Level of parental involvement is great with opportunities for parents to participate in classroom activities monitor their child's learning progress and be a part of their child's education. As my child is only in Preschool right now the level of extracurricular activity is not high but once she moves into K-7 I am sure that the level will be higher.

this school could achieve alot more through the years to come.

My daughter attends Holmes school and I am very much impressed with the program at her school. Her teacher Mrs. Valenzula is fantastic and she has learned quite a bit in just the first few weeks of school. Even though the programs goes a bit longer than normal (8-1 30) I think that extra time has really made a difference in my child and since the classes are smaller I feel my child gets the attention she needs. I was concerned with the amount of homework that she has but she doesn't feel overwhelmed because she understands it. My niece attends school in Orange County and she had to be held back no one said anything until halfway through the year. Holmes is doing a great job and I would encourage other parents to check it out.
