California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

We just recently moved here. I only give it 2 stars because my daughter says the students are nice. Well upon enrolling her we found out that there are no advanced classes. They do not have the resources for it. So the high school credit my daughter was earning is now obsolite. I completely agree with the previous comments that the front desk staff are argumentative and I feel deliberately unhelpful. They were almost shocked her first day there that I wanted to speak with adminstration and ask a few questions. The Vice Principal was rude and defensive. I'm just glad this move is temporary. Apparently this is one of the better schools in the area. If you can afford a private I school do it!

This school has helped my son greatly he started to pay more attention in class and did better when he got to this school. He started getting all As and Bs cause the teacher really tryed to work with them.

I too must question the competence level of the administration staff of the school. Not only were the schedules severely mixed up at the beginning of the year but apparently they cannot open their mail to find needed information to be sure their students are in the classes they need to be in. My daughter was sitting in classes beneath her level and after weeks of trying to get her in the advanced classes she needed nothing still was being done. I was told it was my responsibility and once I suggested they call the previous school and ask for what they needed the issue was solved in less than ten minutes. Really...picking up a phone was that hard?? And the whole time I was talked down to by the person across the desk like I had no right to even question the matter or have an opinion about it. All I got was excuses and cut off mid-sentence instead of someone who listened and tried to work toward a solution. So I provided my own. My child no longer attends this school and she is much happier for it.

So the year has just begun but I am worried so far at the incompetence I have come up against with the administrative staff. Front desk is clueless and argumentative unhelpful and the principal often steps in acting as a secretary but doesn't identify herself. My daughter went missing after school one day and I had to call the police before the staff at the school would even try to locate her on the campus- she was at a sports tryout they assured me was not taking place that day. My every impression so far is abject incompetence and that they really couldn't care less.

I just graduated from Amargosa Creek and i really loved it there! They have excellent teachers and staff that are willing to help. The school has awesome after school sports. The school also has electives that would teach you something that you will carry around with you for the rest of your life. Overall this school is the best school that i have ever been too!

This school has been great to kids. My daugther graduated this year and my son still has two years to go but it has been a great support to my kids. the staff and security level is great and they do care about your child education...

I am in Tenth grade know I am a alumni graduated in 2008. The school is going down the drain know. The kids are out of control and Lancaster in general CST scores are going down. When I was going their the CST test were really high. I am glad that my parents sent me to Private school. Sorry to say the public system is not what it used to be. These hooligans are bringing the school down. The teachers are doing the best they can.

The school may be fun for the the kids but the CST scores are way below avarage; this shows they are not learning a whole lot...

I have had 2 children pass through this school. I have loved Amargosa but I really do think the former Principal Mr. Conte really set the tone for the school was very hands on and such a presence there. I miss him and my kids miss him. There are still a lot of great teachers there but I have noticed this year that there has been a lot more trouble and fighting going on around the school and in the neighborhood afterschool Im not sure what changed this year and why this is more of a problem. There have also been some issues with kids with behavioral/violence problems on campus. Some of the best teachers my kids have had and loved are Mr. Newman(algebra/math) and Mr. Montez(history). I hope that Amargosa can continue to stay up there on the scores and with its good reputation. Principal Conte is terribly missed!

Wow.Well I'm Currently an 8th Grade Student. And Wow.I never want to leave this school.Sadly I'm off to highschool but it's heart-breaking just to leave.Well It's kinda sad that next year there won't be a lot of the stuff that we had in the past couple of years that I've been here but all i know is that NO 6th grade NO 6th grade teachers NO a lot of things and I also heard that if we gotta do a club it's like between lunch. And well also that they will be starting in December Have shorter spring and winter break So Yeah. WE might not even have any sports too. And I Love Volleyball and Basketball.Well again I'm an 8th grader and next year all the crap is going to happen. So I'm kind of lucky. But I do Love this School So Much and I wish the district board changed this as it was before....

In my opinion the school is really great. I find that the teachers are very easy to communicate with and my daugther was a new student from another school district and she was able to keeo her gpa above a 3.5 the entire school year. I believe that the school have what it needs to prepare students that want to learn what they need to transition into high school.

I feel that things are not always being heard when I address the school in regards to personal matters with my child.

Amargosa Creek Middle School is the best I ever seen! Outstanding Principal and the teachers go that extra mile all the time!!! I feel privlleged that my son attends!

My wife and I have four boys. Two of our boys have graduated from Amargosa Creek and they now attend Lancaster High School. Our two younger boys currently attend Amargosa Creek Middle School. The school is a newer school and the campus continues to be well kept and clean. The school is highly diverse and it is starting to become crowded as the word gets out that it is voted the safest middle school in the Lancaster School District. All of my boys have enjoyed their classes I believe that this is due to the teachers are role models for their students as they dress for success; they are highly motivating professional and skilled employees. The teachers are also encouraging to their students teaching them that they can achieve anything. The teachers are also quick to end any unconstructive behavioral issues so those students who conduct themselves correctly can continue to learn. The school has an outstanding parental involvement as well. The school sports program is second to none. The school demands good grades prior to allowing the student to play on a sports team grades first and sports second. And in closing we believe that Amargosa Middle School is number one because of the fact that their leader is number one. Mr. Conte leads by example. He is positive sincere motivating encouraging inspiring and has the attitude that he wants the best for your student. Even though the school is getting packed full of students Mr. Conte does a fabulous job at shaking hands with students daily and it is amazing that he knows each and every student by their name. Amazing. What a great school!

My child just start middle school and I must say that compared to the elementary school she attended Amargosa is outstanding. The Principal's involvement and use of the phone message system to keep parents aware of the school is impressive and the PTO seems to be contributing quite a lot to the school. I'm also impressed with the extracurricular activities and the advanced math program offered at the school. Lastly I'm glad that the 6th graders are a bit isolated from the upper classmen and appreciate the time given to adjust to the middle school environment.
