Michigan Merit Examination (MME)

In 2010-2011 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The MME is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. Just an awful school system. I just really wish we never moved here! The high school is terribly overcrowded and staff does not respond to request. All that is cared about is the sports teams how could they not be successful when they are double the size of all their league competition? Many kids now not able to play their favorite sports.

My son is in his 3rd year at East. The band program is wonderful. Most of the teachers are good. I am very happy with this school. I am afraid it is going to go down hill once they combine the 2 schools (over crowding).

Over crowding in this facility is just one negative happing here at Lapeer school. My son would like to drive next year but because the facility parking is not large enough there will be Senior only parking next year. Now my son can not keep his after school job and will be traped on a bus for nearly 2 hrs a day. Not to mention he does not want to be on a football team with 80kids.

Anyone posting on this forum (or any other) claiming that Lapeer Community Schools will now or at any time in the future (while the East campus is the main HS campus) have 2 000 or more students in one high school is purposefully being deceitful to push an agenda. I encourage all of you to be a part of the process to gain an understanding prior to forming an opinion. Our district doesn't have anywhere close to 2 000 students in grades 10-12 today let alone two years from now. Shame on you for willfully misrepresenting a plan aimed at securing a sustainable and innovative future for students. It's easy to post misinformation and much more difficult to get involved in the process. I encourage you to do a little research on current enrollment and projections.

A very stiff unfreindly place. This is no place for students to grow.

My brother went to Lapeer East and so did my husband and his brothers and now our son goes to East and our daughter will when she gets old enough. Lapeer East has great teachers who are there for more than just the pay check. They are there for the students not only to teach them but to support and encourage them as well. Lapeer East also has a great Band program. Our son has been in band since he was in sixth grade. When he got to East he had the same band teacher that his uncle had had at East. Although that teacher retired last year the new teacher is just as amazing and we would highly recommend that your child gets involved in the band program. There is a big parent involvement in the Lapeer East Bands program.

Counselors and support staff have done a great job with my son who was involved in the special ed program. Just the fact that he now wants to go to college speaks for itself. I salute the staff at Lapeer East. I would like to see the same kind of involvement from every teacher. Again counselors principals special ed and special ed support staff get an A+ from me.
