High School Proficiency Examination (HSPE)

In 2010-2011 Nevada used the High School Proficiency Examination (HSPE) to assess high school students in reading, math and writing. The HSPE is a high school graduation requirement. The HSPE is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Nevada. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

We have been to three school in three years- ouch- in three different cities.. arbor view is one of the better schools although there were others rated much higher on this web site. a few places they need to improve- parent portal- make use of the upcoming assignment feature. Internet please instruct teachers not to bash technology. If the school blocks the web site in the school don't expect the students to have to pull out their I phone or androids and log on to a site in class to get around the block. Not all students can afford data plans. Not really thrilled with all the work they have to do on the computer at home- it feels like a way to reduce the amount of work the teacher does grading which also reduces the amount of constructive criticism they can give the student. If there is a good reason for not having work done by a due date- take the work This school is much better organised than any other we have been to. For the most part the teachers put the grades in in a timely manner. Most of the teachers seem professional in their conduct- I don't obviously know everyone- it's a big school.

Arbor View I don't understand what happened between student and the administration in the first rating below. First of all teachers should not be cursing at students. Not a good example. Next if the student went to apologize where was the upper administration to deal with this if the teached didn't accept the apology. Why would the student be blocked from attending class. Three years ago another of my grandchildren graduated from Arbor View. I was really impressed with the principal and the whole staff. What happened? My grandson this year loves the school. Doesnt' get into trouble. But I would hope that the staff would be considerate of all students. This is where they learn to get along in the world. Teachers should be the first example. Hold their temper. Hope it gets corrected. I also don't think that political views should be aired at school unless it is a two-way street.

I am a student at Arbor View and recently got into a verbal dispute with a teacher who was cursing at students. I stood up for myself causing me to get reprimanded. After I was reprimanded I went to apologize to calm the situation. That teacher was blatantly disrespectful. That teacher continued to kick me out of their class day after day. I was reprimanded for not showing up to that teachers period. Arbor View is by far the most radical unreasonable and unfair school towards minorities. The facility is amazing though!

I am currently a junior at Arbor View. I've attended since freshman year. I've come to find that the school is what you make of it. The teachers of the honors and AP classes are very helpful and go above and beyond for their students. Many take extra time out of their schedule for after school help and really make an effort to get to know their students. However most teachers tend to bash kids in regular accelerated programs. The campus is always immaculately clean and decorated in posters. Arbor has lost of school spirit; there are always lots of people at the games and people walking around wearing our school mascot. As far as students go most are kind and friendly however most new students find it hard to fit in due to it's cliquey nature. The school also seems to base everything on popularity; student council is chosen more on how cool you are rather than your qualifications. Our sports teams are exceptional. Our football and soccer teams have won many competitions. The school offers a good amount of clubs that range from community service to anime. Our school isn't perfect but I'm still proud to be an Aggie.

Arbor View High School is... Well to be honest I have not attended it long enough to judge. I have thought the last three Schools I have attended we're fantastic then to find out the next few years after having left that school. That there we're major issues with it. CCSD needs some serious work! I'm a freshman at AVHS i am taking all honors classes busting my butt to graduate with a Advanced Honors Diploma and so far I have not had too many issues. I will say that AVHS needs to be a little more lenient on some issues and focus more on others. Teachers here are very open on their political views and my opinion of this is If your allowed to be open allow us students to be open as well. Allow us to have a civil debate. Most of my teachers i have care and are fantastic and are willing to help. The other students who attend AVHS are wonderful. I have not had any issues with any of them and most of my class i have been going to school with since kindergarten. AVHS is a wonderful school. But it could use so improvement in some areas and so less focusing on in others.

Arbor View is a horrible school. It is full of teachers that spend most of their time spreading rumors about parents and students. Very little teaching goes on. This school needs a new principal very badly.

Arbor View is one of the best schools in Las Vegas. With an education system like ours Arbor View is doing quite well. My school is full of spirit it's safe clean and filled with excellent athletes. Its only flaw is its teaching staff. If you're not in AP classes you're unimportant in a teachers eyes. The Honors students use to matter but now they've slipped through the cracks.

I am currenlty a senior at Arbor View High School. I think Arbor View is great school to be in I started Arbor View beginning of my freshmen year and leaving in my senior year and it was pleasure getting my education there. The teaching quality and the academic programs are good.

I am currently a senior at Arbor View and I think it is a great school overall. I understand some of the criticisms about teaching quality and things of that sort but people have to realize we live in NEVADA a state ranked 50th in education. We don't have the money to hire qualified teachers but if you look you can find them. But if you really want a quality education you need to take honors and AP classes. Those are the classes where you will actually learn.

Safety is very good but the teaching is not. The teachers dont try to teach if the student doesnt try to learn they put all the failing students in the back and the passing students in the front.

I'm attending arbor view for my senior year and honestly as a new student this school could be better. I highly suggest taking honors or ap classes the teachers who teach those classes are much more nicer than the ones who teach normal classes. The students at the school aren't anything special and they don't cause much trouble but they are like most kids annoying. I really don't want to stay here and will probably drop out to attend virtual high school.

As a parent this administration has been nothing but exceptional. They took time and listened. They really wanted the best for the student and even took suggestions and feedback. They actually cared about my student. Congrats on a job well done.

I'm a junior currently attending Arbor View H.S. Many teachers at my school could care less about teaching instead they choose to converse with their students and give assignments that a third grader could complete with no problems. My days in class are spent learning the bare minimum on any given subject. To pass the time most kids end up texting or using their ipod's during class which is probably why many kids love it here. True there are some teachers who provide a real learning enviorment but those teachers are few and far between.

I have had a student in this school for 4 years since it opened in 2005. It was a great school at first. This year has been a real joke. The Dean's are rude and disrespectful to students and parents. My student does not feel safe and some of the teachers should not be teaching. Overall a huge educational disappointment!

The school shows apathy over chosen teachers for a large number of it s core classes that are under the AP level. Students are certainly not gaining a sufficient amount of knowledge if they do not achieve at an exceptional level. The majority of basic level classes are taught by coaches from the school. There are exceptions but the majority do not give students the education that should be provided to them in contrast to many other schools in the country.

My daughter attends Arbor View. In my numerous experiences with schools in Clark County this one is one of the best. The teachers are responsive and they actually care about the kids. They are available to me and my daughter when she has questions or concerns. The administration is equally good.

I am a student o this school and it is my first year here and i am a freshman and it has been very cool at this school my parents and I love the school the teachers may be a little strict but they teach us so many good habits and good manners the school spirit is also terrific this school is incredibile i love it at AVHS...GO AGGIES!!

I don't know what experience the person had on 5 December but this school teaches respect. My daughter is in 10th grade and absolutely loves the school and the teachers. I would recommend this as the best public high school in Nevada...and we have had children in two other high schools (Centennial HS and Mesquite)...GO AGGIES
