Great school with great teachers. My kids were and are lucky to go there.Wouldn't have it any other way.Maybe some of the other problems I am reading about starts with parenting.

This school is a joke! My son went to a private school for kindergarten and first grade and got straight A's. He was doing third grade work in the first grade. Unfortunately I lost my job and we could no longer afford the private school anymore. I had to enroll him here and now he is barely passing! I wasn't quite sure why until today. I dropped my son off at safe key and on my way out of the parking lot was almost hit by two vehicles pulling in the exit come to find out THEY WERE TEACHERS!!!!!! How can they teach our kids if they themselves can't read or follow rules!!!! THANK GOD this will be our last horrible experience at this joke of a school!!!!

This school seemed good until recently. My 5th grader has seen and been witness to horrible bullying and the administration does nothing. I am so happy she won't go there any more. The PTA is awesome and has made it extremely fun for the kids unlike the staff/administration. Staff and parents are pitted against each other and the P VP do nothing but sit back. The kids are just numbers and are bribed for good test scores. Sad place. Nothing will be getting better. Many teachers are leaving because of the lack of confidence in leadership (administration) and lack of concern for students.

I feel that this school was good when we first started going here 3 years ago. Now the PTA is having a hard time getting any parent involvement the front staff is rude except for Sherry. You have to fight for everything there for special requests. It is a challenge to have your child looked at as something other than a test score! Teachers are not getting support they need and the school has no true rules with handling bullies.

I would not recommend this school. We decided to move to this school district a year ago because the school got a 9/10. Well it has fallen to 7 and should be farther in my opinion. My son has failed the 3rd grade after a modest amount of help from the school. Th teacher did what she could but obviously not enough. When problems were obsereved it seemed like the only answer was more homework which he had problems doing what he had. I have asked for ann IEP several times but have been denied. What other litmus test do you need than the kid flunks the grade?? Asked for a zone variance but it is still CCSD. Pretty soon we will need to change the spelling of the state to NEVADUH!!!

My son started PreK at Darnell and he is behind in everything and the teachers and the people that work there have tons of patience and they treat me and my son so great I am so happy I enrolled him )

My Twin girls started going to this school in October 09 and they love this school. They are both in Special Ed they have a great program and there teachers really care about them. They are in thrid grade and enjoy all of there class mates.

This school so far is a joke. My child went to Scherkenbach Elementary last year and nothing compares to that school so far! There is no communication no involvement with the PTA all they want is for you to sell stuff. I used to get letters every week from either they were going to spray pesticide or something as minor as a teachers schedule was moved around. I also feel 'out of touch' with this school as well. I feel the principal and staff are overwhelmed or dont know what they are doing. I fell as if my child does not exist. I think i will ask for a zone variance next year because Scherkenbach is the best look at thier rating!!

this school is not very organized and basically I feel 'out of touch' there is hardly any communication whatsoever. I think they need to try harder on things like communication and also try updating their school website!

I am in my second year as a Darnell Parent and I love it. I have twins who were in K last year. Their teacher Mrs. Buell was awesome. I don' know of many other kindergarten teachers giving spelling test! She really prepared them for first grade and its homework demands. We are now in Mrs. Martinez's class and she seems to be a perfect fit. The first month has been a review of last year while she figures out each child's strengths and weaknesses. She has proven to be a fair but tough grader. Vice Principal Rice is nice and approachable. The front office is very helpful and the PTA is energetic. I have nothing but praise for the school.

My son is in Kindergarten this year with Mrs Buell. We could not be happier. The school is immacualte feels safe and his teacher is the best he could have gotten. We're thrilled w/ every aspect of this school so far. Parents seem very involved and eager to help the kindergarten teachers any way they can. I feel like this will be a very good year.

I have been at Darnel for 4 years now and it has been a good school I do have bright children so the over crowding hasnt been horrible as far as education of them goes but I do know that after the fall festival I realized Wow it is just too crowded and my particpation does matter so that my children do not get eaten up in the mess. They have gotten a few more teachers in sports and music and my children like each of their teachers. If Darnell would get to the level of students it was a few years ago it would shine just like it is intended to do like thier motto 'Darnell Superstars'

This school is very overcrowded. my son's class has way too many kids in it for him to receive the individual attention that every child deserves. This has truly affected his education. This school opened this year and they have already had to place mobile units in the back. Plus the safe key program is the worst i have seen yet the instructors consistently gripe about even being there let alone keep a watchful eye on the kids. Thumbs down to this establishment i can hardly wait for the new school to open closer to us so he does not have to attend Darnell any longer.

I want others to know what I have noticed at this school as of Oct 21 2004. School enrollment is over 800 students. My son is in a mobile building right next to and attached to another mobile building that houses the PE facilitys i.e very loud and disruptive. My son is being taught 1st place division in 4th grade when last year at a different public school he was being taught 3rd place division at the end of the school year. School awards consist of best behavior and best attendance the last school my son attended gave out awards for highest GPA best in Math Spelling and other. My son only is given one page of homework a day when he started the year with three pages. When did Nevada or in particular Marshall Darnell start the dumby down process and why?

Darnell is an exceptional public school. I don't believe it would be possible for my kindergartener to get a better education than she is getting right now anywhere. Very high quality teaching program. The specialists are great also. My daughter loves art music and the library. Fantastic school and staff.
