End of Grade Tests (EOG)

In 2011-2012 North Carolina used End-of-Grade (EOG) tests to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math, and grades 5, 8, and 10 in science. The EOG is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of North Carolina. Students must pass the grade 8 EOG test in order to graduate from high school. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level on the tests.

My son completed his K-5 there and now my daughter has begun. A new principal started this year for the 2011-2012 school year. There is nothing but great things to be said about her! She is very positive great communicator respectful to her staff and parents listens and acts on suggestions attends all PTO meetings and encourages parents/teachers to get involved to make this school the best! She genuinely cares for her staff and students. I applaud her efforts to raise the bar on this school; she does it in a very positive and enthusiastic manner. She does return emails phone calls and follows up on anything you may be concerned about. We have always had excellent teachers but now Mrs. Finger brings Excellence and Respect back to Leicester Elementary from our Administration!! Thank you so much to our wonderful teachers and principal!! Grade given A+ Michelle G.

I love this school. My daughter has been there for five years. She has had some of the best teachers. Everyone that works at that school is great. Everyone is so helpful anything you need any questions you have they are really there for you. We could not ask for a better school here in Leicester.

I have had 2 children attend this school and now 2 grandchildren. I find the staff caring and ready to help. My children and grandchildren have gotten a firm foundation and a love of education from this school and all that works there.

I think all concerned are great at this school. If you want to volunteer they are very happy to have you. Just ask.

Both of my children have went to this school. I think this is a great school and love the teachers. As in life you will have bad apples so to speak but most of the teachers are great!!!

I have to take offense with some of the reviews that are posted on here. The staff at this school has to be the most caring compassionate dedicated people that I have ever met. They go the extra mile to help students that need help to engage the higher learning students in activities that challenge them and to encourage each child in their individual learning styles. Not only is the staff caring but the principal and assistant principal have helped to institute new activities for the student body to further educate the students.

If not for the parents this school would be in serious trouble. The level of comitment by the staff is not acceptable. If your child attends this school I urge you to visit as often as possible and take a really good look at the level of professionalism displayed by the staff. My child attended K-1 here under the recently transfered principal. Assuming her replacement could only be a step up we began grade 2. It lasted just a few weeks as the new Principal is even less interested in the children than the old one was if you can imagine that. Those of you who know the old one you know exactly what I'm talking about. I truly hope that enough parents will take a stand and get this school back on the track in which it used to follow.

My child attended Leicester Elementary school last year and is entering the first grade. Her teacher did a wonderful job with her students and made my child want to learn. The teacher had an open door policy and I was able to talk to her when ever I had a question. The Principle was a no non sense type of person. I respect her because she would tell you what you needed to know not what you wanted to hear. The school and its staff does not get the credit it deserves!!

I hate to give this school such a low rating because I feel that most of the staff do the best they can with what they are given. The problem is with the Principal of this school. I do not believe she makes the best choices for her students and staff. She does not communicate well with the parents and tends to avoid them. I believe her to be a person of great character personally but not professionally. It is a shame that I cannot list specific details to verify what I am saying.

I pulled my Kindergarten age child out of this school. I have a bright child that was being left behind. My child was bringing in homework every day that we would spend time going over in addition to reading for an hour daily. We did flashcards and workbooks together. Home was where she learned not in the classroom! I placed her into another school and she began to soar with the help of a teacher just spending time with her. Problems Classroom size children requiring constant discipline teachers attention easily diverted inexperienced teachers. Parent involvement and communication with school happenings was slack almost as if the school could care less about parent involvement. I signed a form at the beginning of the school year to be a volunteer in the classroom. 100 days into a school year and Nothing! This is bad leadership in a community that Needs it.

The teachers at this school are awesome and put the children first. I have two children in this school and I have met most of the teachers and staff and am pleased with all with the exception of the principal.

Teachers are great; principal & assistant principal do not care about school and they highly critical of the community and staff.
