This school pushes children with summer birthdays to attend 'transitional' first or second grades on the premise that it will allow the children to develop higher maturity levels and higher coping skills. I have had teachers tell me the reason behind this is so that the children will be able to pass the state's third grade tests with higher scores. My child's experience at school should not be judged by performance on standardized tests; rather the school should be confident that the level of instruction offered is preparing the children sufficiently.
