Heard so much negative things about this school until I went to the school myself. It is unbelievable how people listen to others based on their own negative experiences and make judgments from what they hear. Glad I checked it out myself. Excellent. Listen to no one...do your due diligence. I am very very pleased with the teachers and the administration. Lisa McGhee brings in the most qualified teachers who truly care about their students and their education. Education is as good there as in any other middle school. It's your neighborhood school. Invest there!

My daughter attended the school the year before last and she comes from a home school environment but not a sheltered environment. The behavior that the other parents say happens might happen but honestly lighten up. My kid went to a school somewhere else and was mugged daily. The teachers are very good. After a year of their instruction my daughter scored in the 98th percentile on the ITBS they have also come in third in the state for the STEM Bowl. They have an orchestra that competes. I was pleased with the school.

Terrible! I have never seen a school ran this way. They treat all students like they all come from the same household. I'm leaving because I refuse to let my Son attend this school another day! The student look like grown men and they walk around cursing and smoking and cutting school. The teachers aren't concerned when a child has parents that are involved. My Son has been hit by a teacher and called stupid. When you call to check on your child and the transfer you to the classroom the students answer the phone and you hear the teacher yelling and the class is out of control. There are fights every day and my child isn't accustomed to this type of environment. We have visited the school and students know you are a parent but they continue on like you aren't there. Boys feeling on girls girls twerking down the hall cursing and carrying on. My son knows what cutting school is now. He has told about kids bringing molly to school and some other drug that looks like candy. He said some kids are cutting school to go drink beer. He shouldn't know anything about this at his age. They have ruined my child's innocence at Lithonia Middle. Stay Away from this school!

NOT MY ideal school They want parent involvement but when u go to events & the staff R not ORGANIZED OPEN HOUSE U SEND A PHONE MESSAGE ASKING/TELLING PARENTS TO COME & GET YOUR CHILDS SCHEDULE & MEET THE TEACHERS BUT WHEN U GET THERE THERE IS NO ONE AT CERTAIN GRADES TABLE JUST SHEETS OF PAPER WITH THE STUDENTS NAME ON IT TELLING U THE CHILD HM ROOM TEACHER NAME NO RM #. WHEN U GO TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE CHILDS SCHEDULE U R TOLD THEY R NOT READY YET. U KNEW U WERE HAVING THIS EVENT SO Y THE SCHEDULES R NOT READY YET OR WHO AM I COMING TO MEET A SHEET OF PAPER TOTAL WASTE OF TIME & DISFUNCTIONAL. IT WAS DISFUNCTIONAL LAST YEARS AS WELL. THE PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE NEEDS TO HAVE A BETTER SET-UP BESIDES PLAYING MUSICAL CHAIRS. PARENTS TRYING TO MEET W/Teachers IN 1 CLASS RM THEN U SCHEDULE A TIME WHAT FOR? U R NOT SEEN AT/NEAR THAT TIME. IT IS 1ST COME 1ST SERVE OTHER SCHOOLS WERE BETTER WITH PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES & IT WAS ON A PRIVATE SCALE THE WEBSITE IS NOT INFORMATIVE AT ALL. THE COUNSELORS PAGE HAS NO INFO.THEY NEED TO LOOK AT OTHER DEKALB COUNTY SCHOOLS COUNSELORS WEBSITES BUT U WANT PARENT INVOLVEMENT! MAKE YOUR WEBSITE MORE INFORMATIVE & BE MORE ORGANIZED

THIS SCHOOL IS HORRIBLE!!!!! THIS IS A SCHOOL THAT I WISH I WOULD HAVE NEVER GONE TO. IT SMELLS LIKE A DUMP STRAIGHT FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SO MUCH KIDS USING PROFANITY GETTING PREGNANT AND KIDS ON THE NEWS THAT GOT BEAT UP. AND THEY ARE SO GHETTO AND INAPPROPRIATE. THERE ARE MANY FIGHTS. AND THE SCHOOL HAS ONLY MADE AYP ONCE !! UGH IT MAKES ME SO MAD. I ADVISE YOU TO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO LITHONIA MIDDLE SCHOOL.! -SINCERELY someone who HATES LMS with a PASSION!

During my 20 years in education I have learned that parents who complain about schools being 'bad' are usually ones who had bad experiences when they were in school. You need to realize that you do not get anything more out of anything than you put into it! Parental involvement at LMS is VERY low - virtually nonexistent! I see parents come in on their high horses in August wanting to withdraw their kids to send them to a 'high' performing school (?) ONLY to have them return in January once they have been withdrawn for failing grades and repeated dicsipline problems. At that point - what type of miracle are we supposed to be able to perform? Parents - understand that UNTIL you get actively involved in your child's life - you are hindering them from blossoming to their full potential. Meet their teachers communicate with them regularly monitor your children's grades via the parent portal assist them with projects create a homework space for them to work peacefully REQUIRE that they read newspapers books something more than XBOX CELL PHONES AND unmonitored FACEBOOK accounts join PTA - BE INVOLVED!

Actually Ia m a student and I dont like the school at all even though I have very good grades. I got awards and diplomas but the honestly most teachers are way to strict. They yell alot and they dont try to understand the students. Alot of the students there have very bad behavior . They try to get lots of attention. Its just not a learning environment. I should know all this because I actually spend 8 hours there and have very good grades and behavior.

I am a student at Lithonia Middle School. Are school is not bad. We work hard to pass. I admit there are behavior problems but the principal and teachers know how to handle the problems. I hate when people say Lithonia is bad. It is a great school for your child to go to.

This school has no control of the students no dress restictions no disiple what so ever

Lithonia Middle School is not as bad as evrybody says. It may not be in a good neighbor hood but if your kids are inside learning they should not have a problem. The teachers are great and they are strict about their work being done and they actually care about there students. People think that since Lithonia Middle School did'nt make AYP means that they are not a good school but they are wrong because making AYP means that your students are at school on a regular bases and passed the CRCT. If parents are not sending there kids to school then they don't learn and they don't pass the CRCT. So just send your child to school and be responsible for your child and his or her grades. I'm am certainly learning because I have a 3.3 gpa and you have to learn to get that.

If you are seeking excellence or at least a decent school LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE! Many of the students are undisciplined and the staff seems to do little to correct this problem. As a parent and educator I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism shown by the faculty and staff members. The school system should really take a look at the non-theme/magnet schools in DeKalb and focus its energy (and money) to improve schools such as LMS

I am a student that used to attend Lithonia Middle a before i moved on to highschool and its a great school. The school has a great set-up the students have good attitudes and dont get into too much trouble for the most part they all interact with each other in positive ways the teachers care about what they do and teach in methods that will help the students proceed to the next level and they make it fun to go to school. The students and teachrs here have good relationships with each other and work together to get the main job done get the students ready to pass the CRCT test which i exceeded the standards on all parts and met the standards on social studies and now i've moved on too high school where i have all A's and B's. I truely would recommend this school for your child.

I do not like this school and can't wait to get my child out. The majority of the teachers do not care about the student they talk down to them and they are inconsiderate as far as wheteher the kids are learning or not.It is not a safe enviroment and the superintendents are no better because they cannot even return a simple phone call.

i think this school is much better than a private school! people say that this school is a bad school but i wonder where they get that from. i mean the school is not perfect but its still a great school for your children to grow i hope that you will at least consider this school.

As a parent who have a child attending Lithonia Middle School I find the school to be a learning place for all children.

Lithonia middle is a good school we do need more parent in put and support but it is hard to and work full time especially for single parents. More men need to step up. But anyhow if we can keep the kids involved in extra activities such as sports chorus music band etc the kids will do better and get ready for higher education and life strange experiences. My son is involved in the gifted program distinguished gentlemans program but I have to stay on him each day. He is a normal kid that gets caugh up in the peer pressure at times but we must keep all our kids focused on a positive future. Lithonia middle do have a parent volunteer list and have schedule PTA gatherings that are really fun and helpful.
