The information in this section was derived from analysis of data (such as age, occupation, and income) from the 2000 U.S. Census. Using segmentation methods, our analysts created groupings based on the demographic and socioeconomic composition of each city and neighborhood.

   —Dual-income suburban families.

   These married couples with children lead very busy lives, with most bringing in two paychecks per household. Education level varies from high school to college.

2. Bringin' Home the Bacon

   —Middle-income suburban couples without children.

   Married couples ranging in age from mid-30s to early 50s with moderate incomes. A high proportion own their homes. Some have a college education.

3. Movers and Shakers

   —Mobile suburban couples without kids.

   More than 50% of these younger married couples have moved in the past five years. They earn comfortable incomes and work in management or professional careers. Some have completed college.
