My daughter just started her 1st year at this school. She is currently in the 2nd grade. So far I have no complaints. This school rates far above the previous school that my daughter attended in Baltimore City that I absolutely hated. She likes going to school and they're assisting her in her subjects that she's having difficulty in. Something that the previous school dropped the ball on. I'm pleased so far and I hope it continues.

This school has challenging academic programs and curriculum for my child. The leadership is above average my husband myself and my child are completely satisfied with this school

I am a parent and substitute teacher at Powhatan. I have seen much improvement in this school in the last three years. The staff is making efforts in communicating better with the teachers and the staff/teachers with the parents. I am sad to see minimal support from the parents. Little attendance at PTA meetings. Teachers teach general studies and parents need to reinforce what they learned at school Parents teach discipline respect and self control at home teachers reinforce and encourage children with rewards programs. Seems fair to me!

I taught at Powhatan and found that there is a lack of administrative support at the school. There is also a persistent problem with behaviors not being addressed by the administration. Such as not suspending a child for hitting another and such. There is a very high turn over rate among teachers as well. The teachers that do stay are burnt out veterans that the administration cannot touch. The Principal and the early grade teachers have a strong desire to teach and help the students but there is little to help aide them in this.
