Wekiva elementary is not the good school it used to be 5-10 years ago. My son's 1st grade experience has also thus far been deplorable and a complete disappointment just like the other parent posted. Clueless and out of touch are the only words that comes to mind when dealing with this school.

Wekiva is an excellent school all the way around. I agree with the other reviewers about our excellent teachers and our terrific parent involvement. Because some of the older reviews mention that the gifted program is "not worth it " I feel compelled to write that the gifted program has changed for the better over the past few years. It has been transformed from a once a week "enrichment" class to an all day every day accelerated class taught by gifted-certified teachers. The gifted students and other bright high-achieving students are clustered together in one or two classes per grade. Clustering the kids by ability allows the teachers to challenge all the students instead of teaching to the lowest common denominator and my children are enjoying school so much more now. The school's gifted coordinator is amazing and still provides extra enrichment activities to most of the gifted classes once a week (not in 5th grade though).

Just moved into area in December cannot say enough good things about school. Miss Shannon is exceptional. The gifted program is great

Unlike the poster below we have had a great experience with Wekiva. We too purchased a home specifically because of the school. Great extracurricular offerings solid teachers strong parental involvement -- it all adds up to an excellent experience. The almost-constant barrage of fundraising events gets tiresome but you have to give the staff and PTA credit for making sure things are done to make up for the shortsightedness of Seminole County residents(and state government officials) who seem unconcerned with the public education system. All in all an excellent school.

Purchased a home in the Wekiva area after reading the some of the excellent reviews on this elementary school. My son's kindergarten and 1st grade experience thus far have been deplorable. A complete disappointment. We will be relocating for the 2012/2013 just so that my son does not have to attend this school again.

We are thrilled with this excellent school! My husband and I and our three kids have recently moved to the Wekiva area. I have two kids that attend Wekiva Elementary and we are very pleased with the school thus far. One of my children has Autism and has an IEP in place from another school Wekiva and their excellent staff have worked tirelessly to make sure everything has gone like clockwork for our child. The staff is incredible! The teachers are engaged caring and very enthusiastic. The parents are all very friendly and my kids are making tons of friends. I highly recommend Wekiva - both the school and the area!

My husband and I actually left this school and went to another one due to the purchase of a house. However after being at the new school for 2 years we decided we had to move back into Wekiva's area. The administrators teachers and other staff are not only professional and engaging with the children but show an obvious love for what they do. The parents are involved in so many different ways and levels that it is amazing what this school can do. We will never move our childre out of this school again and highly recommend it!

Wekiva is a good school. Not great but very good. A lot depends on the teacher your child gets and I'd recommend that parents ask around at play dates and PTA meetings about the feeling in the classroom. Some teachers are better for girls or for boys and you need to know.

I could not ask for more in a school. My son's education is supported by a network of teachers administrators and volunteers who genuinely care about his progress and well-being. I love that this school has a sciene program something that has all but disappeared in early education. My daughter will start kindergarten in the Fall and I am confident that she will be in good hands as well.

Wekiva Elementary is a fantastic school because the parents teachers and administration work together fantastically to the benefit of every student that walks through the doors.

I must say that I absolutely love this school. I feel my son is safe and in wonderful hands; he is going into 1st grade in the fall and his kindergarten year has been a very memorable one that I will cherish and he will not forget. He enjoys going to school and his teacher is beyond wonderful. Wekiva Elementary has exceeded all of my expectations. I couldn't be more pleased. I do not want to move from this area primarily because of this awesome school.

I believe what makes Wekiva Elementary school great is the parent involvement and the teachers. My kids have yet to have a 'sub-par' teacher. There are so many parents involved it is sometimes hard to find a need for all of them. They usually have to draw names to see which parents get to go on a field trip. Wekiva is always rated very high with test scores but I think student/teacher/parent happiness with the school is more important than test grades any day!

My daughter was in kindergarten and we found out we we're moving to the northeast. I used this website to find the best school to the new area we moved to and it does not shine a light to Wekiva Elementary. Lots of parental involvement and dedicated teachers help make this school shine. My only negative would be the pressure on the kids and teachers to perform well on FCAT. I believe the scores of this test determine state funding for the school. You will not be sorry sending your kid(s) to this school I wish I could.

Wekiva is a fantastic school that provides a safe and fun learning environment for my children. The teachers and administration are top rate and really care about each individual student. Parental involvement is great and encouraged.

Overall I feel Wekiva Elem. is great. I love the location & sense of community. All of my son's teachers have been terrific. I do however wish that more resources were available for struggling students (ie reading).

Overall Wekiva is a very good school. Gifted enrichment program not worth it.

It depends on the teacher! It was very frustrating. I also had a hard time with the parent volunteers there.

My daughter has been at Wekiva for 3 years and for the most part we are satisfied. My biggest complaint is that they teach only to the FCAT and that is the main focus. The school is in a great location and the parental involvement is wonderful!

All three of our kids have attended Wekiva and it has been the main reason we have lived in this area for over 10 years. The school staffs excellent teachers and they always put children first. Parent involvement is huge an we couldn't be happier with the education our kids have gained at Wekiva. The parents and children have always been treated with dignity and respect and the school enforces an excellent 'bully-free' environment. IF you are considering moving to central florida area based on schools Wekiva Elementary is by far the best choice for your kids.
