This school is as bad or worse than what people say it is. The education is poor the school itself is really poor some teachers are pretty cool but some get on your nerves when you get on their bad side. Its a really dangerous place to be if your more of a lone wolf type. Gangs like to pick on quiet kids and make them fight for no reason just to tease them. The security doesnt do anything but just act like their going to do something like everyone ignores them. Overall its not a safe place to be. If you could go to another school do yourself a favor and dont hesitate into doing it. There are many great schools out there that you can benefit from. This school will probably end up being a juvenil jail.

i have two nephews that attend locke high school and their grades are very good
Although many people make us out to be hellraising kids who dont care about their education it could not be farther from the truth. Many students here have dreams of reaching a higher state of education and intelligence and they work hard to help their dreams come true. People who have never actually been to locke see us and think about the bad reputation that haunts us. But I who attend locke know that it is more than what it is made out to be.I for one am taking multiple ap classes and so are many of my peers. We strive to reach our goals and do our best to steer away from the past that tainted the thought of our school. As for what i think of the teachers I am happy to have the teachers i do. We have formed special bonds and are more than teachers and students but friends. They push us to do our best and enjoy being with us. After teaching here they feel there is no better place to teach. Not because we need all the help we can get but because they want to be here. They love us and we love them.
Have seen better not necessary the best unfortunately. The school is outdated there's not much parent involment fund raisers bake sales field trips camp trips specialists for students w/ special needs like math specialist speech specialist a.D.D specialist and so on. Riots at time more security dangerous area specially after school when kids walk home.
I think locke is not one of the best schools out there but when there's no other option students have to work double as hard compared to others schools that have better equipment and better academics and are better funded and in better neighborhoods. I could improve by having more program
The quality of academic programs availability of extracurricular activities and the level of parent involvement all go hand in hand. If one becomes dysfunctional the system be comes out of wack. Parent involvement should be embraced not spat upon by administration and staff. It should be balanced and shared not one sided creating a power struggle among parents. The teachers must be given more creative freedom to bring innovative teaching methods. Athletic Directors must begin to reach out to sports figures and entertainers to give back the way you the parent believes.
Quality of Academic programs at LOCKE has room for improvement however parent involvement is key. Students at LOCKE have the ability to triumph and become successful in life. Consistance assistance with academic enrichment programs college ready programs have made a big difference in many students lives at ALHS. The personal touch of Dr. Wells and other staff members proves that dedication committment and patience is a teacher to all. Most students in college ready programs succeed with little assistance however without where would they be. Parents guardians uncles aunties and neighbors must invest in the youth for the youth will be the leaders of the day to come.
My daughter graduated from Locke in the 1970s and now my gradson is a student. Profoundly changed. My daughter received basically a good foundation but there were gaps. Dr. Palmer made the difference. Today Locke suffers from community issues. The teachers are not as competent as their predecessors but there is more choice. A student can succeed but it is an effort. My grandson has a tough road ahead.
Although Locke High School has had a bad reputation I believe that the school is getting a lot better. They have begun to implement a 'school within a school' environment by breaking the school up into separate smaller schools. I cannot say if this idea is working becasue it is still in the beginning process but teachers and administrators are working hard to build a good school culture. Locke does have various music programs (choir band marching band) art classes and an improving sports program. There are also student and teacher led clubs as well. There is a parent center at the school where parents do come to volunteer their help to the school. However parent involvement is an area that needs much improvement.
Locke wasnt as bad as the rumors say. I dont think that locke perpares kids for the real world though thats something that they need to work on
It is a terrible school. F
this school is changing and it has teachers that care for students it has not had so many fihts and its getting better.
This school is horrible don't send your childern here.
I am always impressed by the students at Locke; they are bright energetic and eager to learn. However parent involvement needs to drastically increase. As parent involvement and motivation from home increases Locke will be able to academically rival such schools as El Camino and Granada Hills.
I just graduated from locke in June 2003. My senior year was my first year at locke. Locke inspired me in many ways. Although Locke may have many negative sides from people who don't know anything about the school I learned more than just education but to value my word and not the ones of those who choose to put down Locke. I would just like to tell DR. Garret to keep at it! And to all the teachers to not lose hope in their students.
I am a graduate of Locke High School and I will never forget the two great years I spent there. True Locke has many problems and there is no need to note them here as we are all very well aware of them. What we need to do is look on the bright side of things. That is what I did. I have attended many high schools and never have I seen the level of teacher involvement at any other school compared to Locke. That dedication is part of the reason I decided to stay there when I could have attended my home school instead. Additionally when I was not bothered with sitting on my behind and complaining about so and so I tried to make a difference there. I was very involved not only with my studies at Locke but the school's overall improvement as well. I wish for current and future students to do the same. One day I would like to come back to Locke as the Principal and improve the statistics I have seen on this website. Locke has lots of potential in itself and its students. The only way that potential will be released if those that are complaining and adding to the mess quit complaining and add to the solution.
Parent envolvement needs to increase dramatically in conjuction with growth in student study habbits.
