The sixth grade teachers were incredibly tuned in to their kids and worked together to implement their challenging curriculum. Most are still there. .ALL of my son's friends who went from Sepulveda middle School to the various Van Nuys High magnet programs entered excellent colleges this fall...UC Berkeley UCLA UC Riverside Colorado Air Force Academy Fisk Some with substantial scholarships. So while I know that you are terrified of making the wrong choice for your child I thought I would present a biggger picture to you. Middle School is a curious mix of children who have entered puberty late or early who have embraced independence or who are reluctant to stray too far from under your wing. There is no other population quite like it. It is with conviction that I tell you that Francisco Sepulveda has the resources the will and the desire to see your child succeed. So take a deep breath and jump.

this is a great school and also a good gifted magnet school and my son is cool
We are lucky enough to be in the Magnet program. The teacher team has proven themselves to be dedicated and compassionate and really understand the "gifted" child. It was difficult to decide as a parent hoping you make the right choice for your child. It always seems like a gamble. But during the tours last year we kept coming back something was "special" here. The best decision we ever made. Ultimately it's about the teachers and trusting your gut-feeling. I am so glad it led us here.
i really like this school i attended 6th grade 08-09 and 7th grade 09-10 and i really like it. The teachers are very nice and at the end of the year they become reallyclose to the students unlike other schools where most of the teachers only went for the money and dont really care about the students sadly I moved and now i goto San Fernando MS and i wish i could go back to sepulveda because i miss all of my teachers and friends like Ms.perrigue Ms.david Mr.Reid Ms.Todd Ms.kolarek and more....
I am in my second year at Sepulveda in the magnet and i love it. Reading the reviews there are more good ones than bad ones. I feel safe at the school and have never had any problems. They have allways had a a bully box that you can use anonymously and now they have it online at their website sepulvedams.org if you ever have any problems they fix it right away whether it be a bully or switching classes. the magnet parents can access the grades online. the campus is huge and there are alot of students but i dont feel that i do not get enough attention from the teachers. i once had a problem with the way a teacher treated me and i talked to the principal and it was quickly fixed. i love my school
My son just entered as a 6th grader in the Magnet program and I can tell you from experience that they do NOT tolerate bullying. He had a problem the second week of school and it was handled immediately and has NO problems since then. It is a great school with outstanding teachers staff and curriculum. I wasn't going to send him but now I wouldn't have him anywhere else!
The Gifted Magnet program at SMS is outstanding and the Magnet teachers are the same. My daughter's first year (6th grade) in the Magnet proved to be difficult due to the obvious differences between the regular side and the Gifted Magnet side. She and her magnet friends endured horrendous taunting and ridicule from the regular population. It was the beginning of 7th grade that I decided to look for another school. Half way thru her 7th grade she was assaulted in the gir's PE locker room by a girl from the regular side. I feel this happened due to lack of supervision. I'm happy to say that my daughter has been accepted at a different Magnet and has officially been 'checked out' of Sepulveda MS. We will miss the teachers and the curriculum but not the racial issues and the academic issues that continue.
i was a student at this school last year & to the parents who are not sure of whether their kids should attend i am very proud to advice that you enroll your child i had a very wonderful experience as a student here because the teachers are very helpful & honestly by the end of the year there as close as friend because yes it is a big school and that means more students in a classroom but thats definitely not a problem because they're very dedicated and in my 7th grade year i moved to a different school and trust me it is NOT the same your child would not get as good an experience at any other school ]
This school is wonderful all the teachers help u when u need help everyone can help u solve a problem at home or school. They care also there are dances every month that u can pay 3.00 Dollars to get into that are very fun. Actually there is a dance tomorrow
My son is currently in his second year at the school and so far it has been very promising. When things have happened to my child whether it be being injured or not completing an assignment- the teachers have kept me informed via e-mail and I appreciate them keeping me informed.
i love this school i was a student here about 2 years ago and the teachers are good and some there good role models!
Great school staff wonderful administration hard-working.
Great school. The teachers work hard and stay after school to work with students. Teachers and administration really care about the students.
My Child attended at this school in 6th Grade. Overall I believe this school is ok. However it is a big middle school which means larger classrooms and more students in each class. Students in big schools tend to get less attention than at smaller schools.
I love sepulveda it is the best school ever and that school tries so hard to help the students learn basicly I think it is a great school!
There are not a lot of field trips to go to. I am currently in the 6th grade and I'm thinking that I might just go to another school that actually gives you a break from the everyday life of a school day. It is really boring going through 34 weeks of school with no field trip. But in the 6th grade magnet(which I'm attending to) at the end of the year if they want to attend(an $8.00 fee) they can go to a banquet. I think that was the only special good thing in the 2006-2007 6th grade year.
My son is currently in his third year in the Magnet Program. My home school(Holmes)is within walking distance from our home however after careful consideration of many SAS and Magnet programs we chose Sepulveda Gifted. My son never thought junior high could be so fun. The magnet kids (400) appear to all care about each other and seem to be a family. We love this school. It is the best kept secret in the Valley. The teachers and staff are very attentive to the students and the parents. They are solution oriented. They are invested in you child being the best he/she can be. The school is very academic. I find all the projects/HW interesting and all the students seem to be goal oriented. When there is any type of discipline/behavior problem within the magnet or the regular school it is taken care of immediately and fairly. Sylvia and Theo
My son loves this school. He has mentioned many times over that he had no idea that school could be so much fun.He enjoys his classes and is surprised that the day goes by so quickly. His teachers are committed and dedicated and very supportive. He is training for a marathon after school and is involved with clubs at lunch time. There are great activities for the kids to join after school as well. There are several good choices for middle school in the San Fernando Valley.Fransisco Sepulveda is definitely one of them.
My son just entered the 7th grade. He is in the magnet program. I cannot speak for the regular school but the gifted program has a strong academic program focused on critical thinking and 'reading between the lines'. Last year was a lot of work but he made it through and is quite prepared for academic challenges that await him in high school. The staff in the magnet office is great! 'Mother Doris' is truly a saint and I think that the new magnet coordinator will be good. I highly recommend this program for a child that is self motivated and willing to go the extra mile.
Sepulveda MS has experienced great improvments in the last 2-3 years due to good leadership and caring teachers focused on creating a positive and safe learning enviornment. We are all looking forward to seeing that improvement continue in every area. If you aren't satisfied with the school get more involved. Communicate with administrators and teachers to learn how you can improve your particular situation.
