California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I am a current 8th grade student here at Hollenbeck. I'd have to say that the principal isn't very attentive about the students it's more about the school. If you see she's always concerned about how the school should be; always making changes and never really paying attention to how much it effects students. For example she has tooken off so many electives and teachers. Back when I was in the 6th grade the school was a bit more better at that time the students had more opportunities to interact with both teachers and students plus get to participate in various activities! But over all I'd give it four stars. Mostly because the teachers at least care about the teachers an so do the staff! If it wasn't for them we'd be in a much more worse case! And also a little help from our counselors to increase the percentage of students culminating!! (

The Principal at this school strolls around like a martinet. She treats teachers parents and students with disdain and talks down to everybody. The overall staff morale is very low and many good teachers have fled the school over the last four years. While many solid professionals remain dedicated to the students of Boyle Heights the leadership of the school is in shambles. This will a tough year for everybody at Hollenbeck but for the students most of all.

i went to this place that is called a schoo;l it is not a a good place to learn most teachers are on their own subject and personal life. when i attended this school i was ready to learn but most teachers would just teach and would not help you understand the subject. i left this school with nothing not even school pride.

Hollenbeck has a great spirirt around it! Most children come to school with a real purpose to learn and succeed. Hollenbeck has some real East L.A.. history to it. The students are proud to attend a school their parents attended. Administrators do need to speed more time in the classroom supporting teachers and students not just yard supervison.

From personal experiencei think that hollenbeck is a great school. Not only do the administaters encourage all of the students to do well and the students themselfs encourage each other. They also have really good electives like music computers art leadership yearbook and a.V.Id. Which is a college prepaory class i am glad that we were all encouraged to graduate from high school but also from a 4 year college. I would really recomend hollenbeck to everyone.

I am very satisfied with Hollenbeck M.S.My son graduated from here and he turned out to be a very excellent student. The staff is very helpful and wonderful. Now I have a daughter here and she comes home very happy talking good about her teachers so......many times parents arent satisfied about the school system at HMS but I have no complaints.Continue the good work.

I can tell you from personal experience that this middle school is a total joke. The administration does little to back up the teachers and substitutes in the classroom and most of the kids are very unruly and rude.

Hollenbeck ms is a fantastic school to attend besides the leadership skills I received from leadership class I also understood many methods of life and how to manage myself. This school is great and I appreaciate all the focus they ever gave me. A school is a school its up to the student to make the best out of it.

Sincerely speaking Hollenbeck has change over night with the new administration. There instructional program is more rigorous than before and they have succesfully implemented a school-wide program Heart where students and their families are celebrated for achieving academic excellence. I am happy to say that my child attends Hollenbeck MS.
