California Standards Test (CST)

In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I referenced this site to evaluate the local schools prior to agreeing to move to this area. While the rating stars were low I was encouraged by some of the reviews and supplemented my hopes with the fact that the "gifted" program would at least be okay. I'm leaving this review because it's tragic that no one has offered a reality review recently. I'm appalled at the principal and office leadership at this school. Stay away from the LA's Best program here at all costs! They've screamed in my children's faces and embellished upon slanderous versions of "incidents" at the sake of saving their own necks. There is no such thing as homework help here either. The teachers complain about no budget and no support. The principal barks orders but seemingly has an inability to listen to a parent's responses or concerns. I give the teachers three stars here only because of the teachers in the gifted program. Otherwise I would rate this as 0 stars across the board based upon last year in which the 2nd grade teacher sent home daily papers covered in unhappy face symbols for every 15 minute period of time that passed and continuously called us to complain about our ADD child. RUN!

My child has been at this school since 2009. It has since vastly improved. The test scores have improved dramatically with the help of the principal. She did a lot for this school but unfortunately she is no longer there. This year was the first year with a new principal and I would say my opinion about him remains neutral. Nevertheless my child is recieving a quality education in the G.A.T.E program.

The teachers have been working hard to improve academics and the newly released testing scores show that all that hard work is paying off. Thanks to the principal for her leadership and enthusiasm. The students were highly motivated as well as the staff to reach for the stars! Congrats to all for a great 2010-2011 school year. Here's looking forward to another great year!!

From my own personal experience that I have encounter with the schools office staff has been poor and unprofessional! Their work conduct is unacceptable with not an ounce of hospitality or helpfulness that one should feel with entering the front office. Personal I feel they are there to do do their job and as part of their job objectives is to attend and help parents and children with any questions or concerns while maintaining a proper attitude! When anyone enters a school your first impression relies on the greeting and helpfulness you receive from the staff. You should not come out feeling you have been a burden and a nu sense! to the their time!

They are trying really hard to get test scores up so everyone could see it is a great school. They reward children for trying hard academically and encourage parental participation.

HE TEACHED ME ALOT OF GOOD STUFF AND ALWASY HELP ME OUT IN MY ENGLISH! THE SCHOOL STAFF WAS ALSO AMAZING WE HAD MANY FIELD TRIPS AND ONE OF THEM WAS TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS! SINCE I WAS ONLY THERE FOR 5 GRADE I HAD THE BEST TIME EVER WITH ALL THE CLASSMATES THEY ALL GET A LONG WITH EACH OTHER ) I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND BE IN HUBBARD AGAIN! CLASS OF 05'

When the principal dictates what exactly has to be taught in the classroom the teachers professional judgement is eliminated. This directly affects student achievement. Teachers should be given the responsibility of teaching according to students individual needs. At Hubbard the responsibililty and the joy of teaching students has been taken away. One size does not fit all! Instructional leadership is about unleashing the creativity talent and energy of all teachers!'

The principal at this school is a nightmare. She doe not care about the parents students or the morale of the faculty. What used to be a great school has turned into the bottom of the barrel.
