Iowa Test of Educational Development (ITED)

In 2010-2011 Iowa used the Iowa Test of Educational Development (ITED) to test students in grade 11 in reading and math. East Mills is on the edge of becoming the school of choice in southwest Iowa. Once they work out the merger of the two smaller schools they will become the mid size school to send your kids to.

Due to declining student enrollment the finances of the district have been greatly affected. For every student hat leaves the district to attend another school system the budget declines. This effects the ability to acquire good teachers and hold them. It also effects the ability to have additional technologies for our students. That given our superintendent and our teachers are doing a super job to provide the highest quality education for our students. The test scores are as good and better than other surrounding districts. The school system is on track to do great in the future thanks to our teachers and staff at all of the schools.

As a previous student of East Mills I most likely have a different view of what the school was like compared to the typical parent that posts here. I transferred out of the school because of academic reasons. I never felt as though I was learning anything while I was in school. I have big dreams as I am sure many other children in this district do and East Mills was not preparing me to reach them. My reasoning for posting this is in hopes that my story could somehow help a future student with big dreams in this school district. I do not believe that students should ever have to transfer out of their school because of academic reasons. Every child should be given the opportunity to succeed like I was at my new school.
