My son is in his 8th grade year at MMS. The school atmosphere is very positive and there is a lot of emphasis on teaching students the importance of service as well as academics. I have been pleased with the majority of his teachers and the administrative staff is excellent.

Mr. Graham our new principal is a wonderful manager for his staff and role model to the students. He and our VP are not tucked away hidden behind their desks but out in the student's view as bus call lunch and throughout the day. They are truly engaged in the students' well-being. While we all put an emphasis on learning we also find the value in how happiness impact the school environment. One example the gym coaches plan wonderful events for the students with team building ties and reward based events so that the students can also enjoy being "kids" still. It creates a wonderful community within our walls. Teachers come to work with joy in their hearts and our short detention list proves that the students are genuinely happy in this place. It's a gem for teachers staff parents and especially our precious students.
One day My daughter's bus was 30 mins late so I called transportation to see where the bus was. I was then told my daughter did not get on the bus after school. I panicked! Transportation called MMS and told me the office was paging her and they spoke to the principal. Transportation explained the situation. The principal told them "I don't get off until 5 and I'm not going outside until then. I will look for her then"! When I was told this I could have reached through the phone! My child is missing and you won't help? Transportation said they were going to make more calls. I then texted a mom that was on the field trip and asked her what time the field trip bus returned to school. She replied they should be at MMS in about 20 mins! My panic turned to relief! I just got the return of the field trip mixed up! I then realized the principal surely knew of the field trip. I arrived at MMS I saw my daughter.Shevsaid the principal was waiting at the bus doors and told her to come in the office and call your mother and LAUGHED. I can not think of a word to describe such a person.
poor leadership by a principal that places authority over reason.
This school is a great school! I know because I go here. It is not bad at all some of these comments are untrue! The principle can be strict but she isn't as unusually strict as these parents make her sound. The school isn't very challenging but it keeps you occupied. Most of the kids are kind but some can be a little antimidating or... rotten eggs. They do not just hand out ISD (in school detentions) to anyone just to people who mess around. The teachers are mainly understanding and great! Don't let these comments stop you from letting your child have a good time at Marshall!
The concert band is phenomenal. Good school. Great principal. Nice kids.
I'm at the school alot I'd say 2 - 3 times a week. Unless you are there hours a week you have no idea how bad it is. I pulled my kid from this school and he will never go back If your child goes to this school talk to them about what is going on and beleive them. It is as bad as they say it is. And yes I have talked to the superintendent and some changes are coming but not until more kids tell the truth about what they see
I have to agree that the principal seems to over-react to many situations involving the students But considering the epidemic of drugs and violence in schools now-a-days I guess over reacting is preferrable to ignoring possible disciplinary problems. I have to agree that my children have not been challenged by any of the public schools they have attended in Fauquier County.
This school has no money whatsoever because they spend each and every dime on the teachers who dont even deserve what they get. Because of this each grade just about has only 1 field trip!! And not to mention all this school is good for is writing referrals to students or sending them to ISD! And any form of discipline that they think they are doing doesnt help! That is why half of the kids cant learn anything because of the poor condition of the school and learning materials surrounding them.
This school is poor and the principal is too strict and there are no activities held ever!
This is my son's third year at MMS. My daughter also attended several years ago from the 7th grade. I have been extremely happy with the school in terms of leadership and teacher support and teaching ability. Parental involvement is quite high as well which tells you something about the community views on the importance of education. I have also had an opportunity to observe leadership reactions to several disturbing incidents involving students. The incidents were handled quickly and appropriately according to the situation. We are also fortunate to have an on-site police officer who is accessible to the children if they encounter issues with other students. I feel very confident in the safety and security at the school. The principal is very strict and may go overboard on 'following rules' to a greater degree than necessary. However a school full of pre-adolescents with all of the raging hormones could explain
I moved here three years ago to the date. The first two years my son spent at CM Bradley. They were two very disappointing years as far as an education goes for a child. He is having a great time this year at MMS and I thing a great deal of that has to do with the teachers as well as the princpal. What I feel about her.... more in the county should be like her! Keep up the good work staff and administrators at MMS. I am extremely pleased that my son is finally getting the education he needs as well as is able to enjoy himself.
The only problem with this school is it's principal. She is domineering and gives a large amount of 'ISD's' (in school detentions where the children are yanked from their classes and then sent to a detention class to spend their entire day!.. a recent ISD was for 'mocking' the principal....this principal is bullied by the kids!). I believe that she punishes many more students than any other principal in this area.
I think this school is pretty neat. In the recent Fauqueir time we had some gossip. This doesn't matter though. Mrs.Moscetti is strict and so far the teachers are wonderful they really help you understand the subject. I think that all the subjects that I take are wonderful. I think that the music department expessially chorus is wonderful. They really work hard and it pays off. I think that the extracurricular activities are great and we will have to get over Mrs. Straihn soon though she was a great teacher. We will all miss her. The health/p.e teachers are awsome. I hope that this school is never torn apart.I will miss it when I move on to high school though. That is all I have to say about this amazing school!
