Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA)

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

Extraordinary Comprehensive High School - one of only four in Pennsylvania. Renowned Special Education program.

McKeesport has great academic programs for the gifted student. Advanced classes allow advanced students the ability to learn college level material in high school.

Mckeesport has great programs as long as you take advantage of them. Parent involvement depends on the organization but can be very good. Its extracurriculars are very diverse but heavy on the sports side.

As a parent of 3 MAHS students I am very happy with the education quality they have received. I will say that it is very frustrating to me that the high school gets such a bad rap especially at sport events. I attend these events often and our students always carry themselves with class and dignity! Thank you.
