PGES is a wonderful school! The negative comments below are something I have never witnessed and can't imagine any of that ever happening there. The staff is delightful and very approachable. My kid's teachers have been perfect. The school holds the kids to high standards- both academically and behaviorally. They have implemented an anti- bully program and their classrooms all participate in community service projects each year. They encourage parental involvement but it is not all at pushed! Great environment for my kids!

My son attends Pole Green. His current teacher is great but he is in k at the moment. I feel there are staff members that do outstanding work. My concern however is the social demeanor of many of the staff members. I am a nice person not overly so. I do like to smile wave talk just a little. Normal social behavior. You can literally walk the entire school with not one kind look. One teach was very welcoming at first but then just turned ice cold. Granted this case may be some odd misunderstanding. However in other cases it's just how they are. Great school but the staff should be a bit more approachable. They are teaching my child and I would prefer that he does not come out rude or socially cold if the teachers can not separate their home life from the work day or whatever the cloud is over there. Maybe that is just the world and I am older than I thought.

Personally I do think the school is an amazing school. But at the same time they ask for to much money. I mean yes My daughter loves this school. But it does have its goods and it's bads. The sad thing is that my daughter is going to another school next year and I will miss it and so will she. She has fears about leaving friends. The school has a very good education and her teachers have been the best. Theres also another thing. 3 of her teachers have gone out to have babies think that is kinda weird. But yes this school is a very good school and I like this school but it does have it's goods and it's bads. But I would tell anyone with a child to come to this school or the school that she's swithing towhich is King William county schools that is were her father and I went to school.

My child has attended this school for the past five years. I will miss the crossing guard and all the staff and teachers that make this a great school. As a parent the teachers have always made efforts to provide me with enough information so that I can keep track of the academic progress my child made throughout the school year. I love TeacherEase.

Great School! The teachers are excellent and the academic program is wonderful. My son has learned so much since we have moved into the hanover county school district.

My son graduated from PGES as a strong student organized and very ready for middle school. He passed all SOL tests with advanced scores and he was in an average class. He had great teachers and I found everyone at the school to be focused on students first!

My son attended here for both K and 1 and had a great experience. He is now at LMES and is having even more success now that he has an IEP and spends some of each day in special ed. My daughter is in K there (new school-LMES) and is starting to read and loves to go to school. Her teacher is positive and makes learning fun. High parent involvement too as there is at Pole Green.

There seems to be too many instances where parents are asked to send in money for teacher presents or food donations for various parties. They say there are only 2 parties each school year and that is an outright lie. Room parents are constantly asking for money and candy. It is a pity when kids expect to get a reward for doing what is required of them. The education atmoshpere in this school seems to be one of bribery to acheive. Also the PTA sponsors the Boy Scouts which them in turns discriminates against PGES students. Very disapppointing. Unles you are wealthy white and Christian stay away from this school. Diversity is a joke here. They also do not handle bully situations appropriately. They choose to pander and talk down the bully's actions.

My daughter has been attending this school for 2yrs. and I have seen her education level increase. The teachers give each child the attention needed to improve as if they are their own kids. You feel at home when enter the school.

Our son is completing his second year at Pole Green and it as been a wonderful experience! The teaching staff is second to none and parental involvement in very good. My son is excelling on every level due in no small part to his teachers Miss Marone (K) and Mr. Livingston (1st). I would highly recommend Pole Green to anyone with Elementary-age children in the Richmond area.

I would never send a child with any type of learning disabilty to this school. we have had nothing but a negative experince this year and hopefully our more to the new school will be better. Lack of teacher commication and leaking trailers and overcrowded conditions which has been a huge problem for several years now.

My wife held my son back in first grade because the teacher was so horrible she didn't feel he learned what he needed to for second grade. He passed 1st but not by much He started with high scores and did great with the sub until Dec. when Mrs. Nistrom took over. He's a straight A student except by her. My wife gives and gives of her time only to come home crying because of the attitude of the staff and the fact that they gossp freely about parent's personal situations in the office. I have been in the office sitting waiting for my child and heard the gossip. It is horrible how they talk about people and the principal is about as warm as a rock. She's a c a cold 2 facd person. But that is in keeping with the staff. My wife hates to go now

This school is way to overcroweded!! There is no help for kids that need extra help. Especially LD kids!

My son began at pole green in kindergarten after a relocation from the midwest and i must say we have been very impressed by the level of commitment and involvement of the entire PGES staff. They were very good at recognizing our sons strengths and fortifying them with challenging programs - even moved him into higher-grade reading classes to keep him challenged...Very impressive. We look forward to the coming year in first grade!

We moved here two years ago from Illinois. I have been very pleased with the school system in this area. In April of this year my daughter was involved in a traggic accident she was taken out of school two months early and acedemicly was ready for the next year of school. The quality of academics in this school is outstanding. In my opinion my youngest child has been blessed to be a student at Pole Green Elementary. They have been very acomodating to any situation we have dealt with. Thank you

We were new to the Mechanicsville VA area and our child was entering kindergarten. I was concern with the quality of education received not knowing anyone to talk to in the area about the school. After meeting my child's teacher and some of the other faculty members I was becoming more comfortable with the school. My son is an advanced student in reading and science and I was concerned that he would became bored in class but this was not the case. His teacher sent him to advanced reading classes and gave him more challanging things to do and study. His overall year in Pole Green was wonderfull!! So much so that Pole Green is the driving force of us staying in Mechanicsville. We love the school and the level of education.

School is overcrowded. Special ed. resources seem to be very limited due to space available (which seems to occur a delay in your child receiving help for their weakness). Some teachers are not as understanding as others when it comes to children with ADD & ADHD (this does not pertain to all teachers).

My child would have been a 'Left Behind' child if not for the hard work of certain staff at Pole Green. I am thankful for everything they have done to make it a wonderful place to attend and learn. I just wish my daughter could go through her entire educational process at Pole Green.

I have 3 children attending PGES. It is the very best place for children to learn and soar academically. The class sizes are larger than the web site listed. 22-25 per class and more than 800 students currently enrolled.
