Gateway/End-of-Course (GT/EOC)

In 2011-2012 Tennessee used the Gateway/End-of-Course (EOC) exams to test high school students in language arts, math, science and social studies upon completion of relevant courses. This year they introduced two new exams in algebra II and English III. Students must pass the algebra I, English II and biology I tests, called the Gateway exams, in order to graduate. The Gateway/EOC exams are standards-based tests that measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Tennessee. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Problem not the school as much as its the some of the children. Some children go to learn and others dont. Like a situation with my daughter for example got into an argument with a girl she did not know because of something that happened outside of school. A random boy in the neighborhood was running because he busted a womans window with a brick and my daughter just happened to see him. Next day the boy approached her in school said she snitched and sent his sister to fight her. Therefore my daughter was suspended even though she did not initiate argument and this was explained to the principal. Schools are so eager to give these kids 3 - day suspensions nowadays as if that helps? Hopefully she wont have to be at this school much longer.

I Know their are good students and good Staff at Trezevent. But the Football staff and team need to work on Sportsmanship and Character. They showed NO CLASS.

To counter the argument of the students who believe most people comment on Trezevant solely based on the opinions of the media I have had the pleasure of witnessing Trezevant's unstable atmosphere for the last ten years and I am more than willing to agree that trezevant is sinking lower and lower on the educational totem pole. I have 2 nieces who have already graduated and two left to graduate; and both of my nieces graduated in the top 10 percent of their classes. Now that they are in what is called the real world they are finding out that somewhere they missed out. I am sure however the principal does his best to ensure a safe atmosphere yet we should remember that when a human is no longer treated as such we can't blame the animal that will surface. Trezevant Is not a bad school at all! Many people have said that Trezevant was the worst school in Memphis and many people have also said that students don't learn anything at Trezevant High but the people that say this have never been inside of the School. There are students who go to class on time and like any other school there are some that do not. The media chooses to portray our school as a war zone and Memphis chooses to believe that. In all actuality our school has improved drastically over the last three years but media refuses to cover all the good that our school is doing in the community. Basically what I am saying is that Trezevant IS a good school full of good students faculty and staff. Instead of taking sides you should experience it for yourself. Trezevant is a good school. Yes they have some issues that they need to work on but they have improved a bit. The thing that people fail to realize about Trezevant is that the media is always focused on the bad. They never inform you of the good that have been accomplished there. They didnt tell us of the students that went on to the Accounting Competition at the University of Memphis and ranked in the top 5. They did not tell us of the students that ranked in the top 10 for highest SAT and ACT scored in Memphis and 2 in the state. They fail to tell us of the papers that were published through the University and how many of our students participated in this and their articles were published. They also did not tell us of the choir accomplishments when they won the Swing Choir competition.

Violence drugs and gangs run this school. Students cannot focus on an education when they are fearful and unsafe.

My children have been attending Trezevant High School every since 1998.It is a good school but when it come down to work they don't play. They have a good sports that any grade or age can play. The principal of the school do everything he can to make his students in a good environment. They would also keep the parents up dated on how their child(ren) is acting.I would let my children continue to go their until they graduate.I also would let my grandchildren go there! I hink that Trezevant is a great school. I have been there since the 10th grade and I love it. The teachers are very helpful kind and supportive. If you can to our school and just sat in a couple of class you'll see that our students do learn. I have been on honor roll every since I got there and i give thanks to my teachers. It's because of them for taking time out and teahing us because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have made it. Now I will be going off to college with a high ranking in my senior class. I ranked number 8 and its not just me doing my work it the teachers and principals that need thanks to. They always motivate us to do our best even if we don't succeed. Purple and Gold for Life Go Bears You're # 1! Love J.Crawford

My name is Lankeshia Jones and I attend Trezevant High School. My school is not as bad as people say it is. People don't take the time to actually come to our school and see what it is about. We have great teacher's and Great students.I feel that the only schools people actually look at as good are county schools and that isn't true. Yes most of us are African-American at my school but that makes doesn't make us bad. I wish that more schools like us could at least get more scouts out at our schools and watch at TrackMeets/games instead of going to the county schools. Come take a walk in our shoes and you will see that Trezevant is indead a great school. I love you Coach Rubin you are the best coach I have ever known.

In spite of all the negative media and comments I have found Trezevant to be a school where children learn are encouraged and motivated. I found good teachers and coaches who offered their best. I admit that some of the children fail to take advantage of a good education but I don't believe it's the teacher's or the administration fault. My opinion of Trezevant is positive and both my child and I are looking forward to the next school.
