Mountain View in Mendham Boro covers basics. Mendham Township Middle School is much better at looking at the whole middle school student - more activities more schoolwide enrichment through the curriculum and stronger teacher participation in student activities during the year. Mendham Township holds crisp criteria for its students who need additional academic challenges whereas Mountain View's criteria is arbitrary. Even if you meet Mountain View's "criteria" the program itself amounts to attending a class and taking the SATs early.
Math programs in 5th & 8th grade need improvement even though previous instructor returned from leave possibly replace instructors or reeducate on current math instruction technique. Current 5th grade math does not prepare students for 6th grade math. Unclear on parent involvement rating - There is opportunity for parents to be involved at the school. There is too much parent involvement when it comes to deciding which students get opportunities.
Dedicated teachers Offer extra help either before or after school. Excellent principal. Strong academic program 2 languages (Spanish Mandarin) great arts programs. Positive atmosphere.
A very active staff with interest in and out of the classroom. My daughter loves the school and her teachers. I recommend.
This school does a good job on the basics and it recently carved out a 30-minute EEE period for kids to get remedial help or try a wide variety of enrichment activities--from hip hop dance to creating a newspaper.
