I'm A Student & I'm Gonna Be New This Year So I Really Hope This School Is Decent! & Nothing Bad Or Anything! Deff Excited To Go Though. Just Worried About If People Are Nice Or Not.
I attended Montcalm High last year. Overall it is a decent school. There are some teachers that really seem to care about their students but are still very professional. Mrs. Hall is one of these amazing teachers. Overall I noticed that the school had its pics and not all sports were supported. The principle Mrs. Ash did not help MHS reach is full potential. Mrs. Currence though extremely strict really seemed to care what happened to the students that attended Montcalm High.
I have two children at this school. I have always received a response to my inquiries but sometimes they do take a while to answer you. Morgan Buckland and Adams are excellent teachers. I wish we had better athletic teachers but we are stuck with the ones that are there...forever. Vice Principal Currence loves the school and the students and is quite strict with them. Parents are definitely left out of the loop of events at the school. They are given last minute notices about graduation prom dances performances and such. It would be nice for the school to send out a complete agenda along with the schedules each fall.
I think it is very important for all involved with Montcalm High School to realize that they cannot sit back and expect things to happen for them. I graduated from Montcalm a couple years ago and I had an extracurricular and academic resume that well exceeded the requirements for the top universities in our country. I worked hard not only for MHS but for my future post graduation. Montcalm High School will prepare your student for life after graduation only if they have prepared themselves for high school. The kindness and close-knit community that MHS offers is one of a kind. I would recommend MHS over any other high school in Mercer County.
Montcalm Is good school. The principal is the problem the school has. The assit principal is great work well with the kids. I have 2 children that attend the school. I believe the community and parents would be more involved if the school would let the community and parents know of events. I also believe that the school needs to be more supportive of the Jr. Varsity football team. Remember they are the future Varsity team! GO MONTCALM JR. VARSITY GENERALS!
I go to Montcalm High School and almost half the school only worries about the sports programs. The school has their picks of who they like and who they don't. Kids get treated better than some. It's ridiculous. We also have the most ignorant rules known to man the girl's bathroom stall doors are so small that you can walk right up and watch someone using the bathroom. One teacher there isn't a good teacher at all everyone fails their class or passes with a low D except the teacher's picks. I hate Montcalm and I can't wait until I get out of there.
Academics are MHS are not priority. Basketball and football however are of the utmost importance there. There are no extracurricular activities offered except the usual basketball football and cheerleading. Parents are not involved because they are not given the opportunity to be involved. There is no PTO even though myself and others have constantly volunteered to set it up. Parents are not informed of events or occurrances at MHS. Yesterday was awards day and there was nothing sent home to inform the parents as to when the awards ceremony was going to take place.
My daughter has enjoyed going to MHS.The small school enviroment allows all the teachers and students to know each other better. The parent involvement could use a boost everyone is to busy to support their high school students.I guess at this age parents have reached burnout. The sports programs have dedicated coaches and more involved parents.I think the staff turnover is a problem.Overall I give MHS a B+.My husband graduated from mhs in 1982 and he turned out to be a productive member of society.
Montcalm is the best school around! the teachers care about the students! when my mother went there they didn't but now they do! the teachers try their very best to help each and every student pass their class! The athletic programs are wonderful! Our Varsity girls are doing great! MONTCALM RULES!
I attended this school and I can tell you first hand that it's not all that great. In my years I graduated in 1997 we could tell some of the staff that we were leaving early and they wouldn't care. When we were in class the TV was always on MTV channel. It is mostly upsetting because the staff just didn't care that much and the ones that did hadn't been there long and had gotten transferred from Bluefield. In my opinion if the staff cared about the school a little more it could be a great school.
