    I dont really know why so many people are saying West is such a great place. Its good for a "high school" and academics but if your child is social at all they will have a hard time adjusting here. Most of the students are involved with illicit things and i can say this with much first hand experience alot of girls here are generally morally loose(if you get what im saying) and extremely judgmental of others. Its tough to actually make friends because of the intolerance and overall ignorance of personal diversity and freedoms but if your a "Redneck" or extremely outgoing/bubbly person you shouldn't have too much of a hard time fitting in here. Diversity as stated before is very unwelcome and most of the schools values are highly Conservative. The principal tries his best but at times he ends up not making the best decision as a whole. In the end though this is a average High School with average things happening you would expect teens to be into. The schooling is good and the staff is actually very interested in your own situation if its worth their time and oppurtunity is everywhere. The only downside is the student body. The students are what bring this school down overall.

    I am graduating next Friday from West Wilkes High School. This school was an alright school. I moved to this school my senior year and I played in the band. The school paid more attention to sports than the band. But besides all of the that I had a good experince at this school becuase the teachers were nice and most of the students are nice as well. I would reccomend this school to anyone after this year the fine arts programs have deffinitley gotten more attention. Join band for a gret experince! (;

    I am a current student at West and all i can say is what a wonderful place. It is small meaning it is a great teaching and learning environment. My parents really like the school because it has opened many new doors for me. I wouldn't be at any other school than West.

    I am a former student from West Wilkes and I graduated in 2008. For one I would like to say that I am very fortunate to have attended West Wilkes High. The teachers are the best with one of the teachers Mr. Jim Brooks being a national teacher of the year! I do have to put alot of credit on Mr. Gatewood though. He is one of the best principles I have ever seen. He knows all of the students names makes it a point to talk to all of the students and attends as many of the sport and band events he can. I was in the marching band all four years and my senior year I was the drum major and Mr. Gatewood was really supportive of the band and other arts and sports. I believe West Wilkes to be one of the best schools in the nation.

    I have had two children through West Wilkes High School in the past 7 years. I can't say enough good things about this school. The addition of our principal Mr. Gatewood was the icing on the cake. The teachers here as a whole care so much about the students. They are not only interested in their classroom lives but their daily lives as well. The administrative staff is always helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to handle the task at hand. The coaches are the finest I've seen anywhere. They are supportive and firm but the kids seem to love them all. I attended another high school in the county and had a much younger sister who attended that same school. After having seen her 4 years I am thankful everyday to be in West's district.

    I can't praise West Wilkes High School enough to give it justice! The staff as a whole is always helpful and respectful to the students/parents. All questions and concerns are dealt with promptly. Parent/student involvement is obviously important to the staff and feedback is encouraged and welcomed. My daughter is proud to say she attends West Wilkes High School and my husband and I feel very blessed to be a part of this great community and school. The leadership at West Wilkes High School is impeccable starting with the principal Hal Gatewood. He knows each child by name and goes out of his way to speak to them on a daily basis beginning with each morning as he opens car doors for the students. He makes himself highly visible and available to students/parents. He and his staff support all extracurricular activities as he attends many events even on weekends!

    My child attends west high and I must say that I am surprised by all of these high ratings. I do not feel that the teachers are as great as they are talked about and many of the students are mixed up in various things that they should not be. West High does not deserve 5 stars in any category!!!

    The Quality of academic programs in our school is the absolutely the best for our children. The teachers take pride in teaching and work very hard to provide the best education for our children. If for any reason a child may be lacking in something. The teachers will call home to talk with the parents to help the child progress with the education. It is also very important that our child get involved with music art sports and other extracurricular activities WE are very proud of our school and our children. They all work very hard to accomplish there very best. Our parents are very involved this is very important. We also have very high test scores! Way to go!

    Out of all the schools in Wilkes County West is by far the finest of them. Although it is smaller than most that also serves as a benefit to the students and provides a more welcoming enviroment. Students share a special relationship with their teachers as is they were family or close friends. This school is different than most and it's 'laid-back' style makes learning as enjoyable as possible for both teachers and students alike.

    West Wilkes High School has some of the finest teachers in Wilkes County. Never has my son's education faltered for even one-second without a teacher calling me to let me know that he wasn't performing up to his potential. The community rallies around the students and athletes always. Academically this school is constantly moving forward with their programs. This year West Wilkes High School was honored as a School of Distinction in the state of North Carolina. This school is an older layout and the students respect the property and the tradition. It's a small school (AA) with a very close knit group of kids. There are many second and third generation students graduating from West Wilkes every year. A lot of the kids come from farm families and they have a good sense of self and their priorities are in order. They are ethically and morally as good as they come. Just like with any group of teenagers there are bumps in the road but overall I'd match West s kids against any from the finest schools in the country.
