My child attended Newhart for three years and is currently in high school. Newhart MORE than prepared her for high school and she is doing extremely well. In her three years she never saw a fight drugs alcohol or pregnancies. There may be small traces of this there but those are not the crowd she associates with so she never saw evidence of this. Mr. Jones is a great principal and most of the teachers are very strong. Newhart is a great school with great kids and I highly recommend it.

This is an excellent school overall. The fundraising programs are well organized and I am learning a lot every day. There have not been any serious violence issues (just a few "horseplay" incidents) that I know of but there has been a drug issue that the staff is very strict about. The anti-bullying program is great; anonymous ways to report bullying helps a lot. The elective choices are great. Some teachers are better than others obviously but overall they are all very good. Go Panthers!

This is an amazing school with great teachers and students! The drug and violence issues the previous parents spoke about are minimal and honestly those types of issues usually start at home. Newhart provides an outstanding education for my kids - as the test scores prove! My kids have found great friends and lots of opportunities to be involved in school in positive ways! You can tell the teachers genuinely care about their students.

Great teachers at this school. Unfortunately the kids here are very bad. There is a lot of violence and drugs at this school and I don't believe it's a very safe learning environment.

This school is only good for its academics!! I am schocked at the profanity and drug culture this middle school has in a middle class neighborhood.!!! If your child wants to have friends he has to be a part of this party scene! I can't believe I actually sent one of my kids here in the 2008-2009 school year. He now goes to Serra Catholic along with other coto kids!!!!!

highly educated teachers motivating classrooms ZAP program (zeroes are prohibited - an after-school program where students finish their assignments not turned in so they do not get zeroes & therefore fail classes) very strict & anonymous bullying policy fun lunch activities excellent staff!

As a teacher at Newhart for five years I can say that this school is an amazing place to teach our students. The teachers I work with are collaborative educated caring and student-focused. When teachers are free to thrive in what they do (which is to teach) this helps students also to thrive academically socially and physically. I love Newhart!

Its a cool safe school. Mr. Knights (the principal) is fun spirted but knows how to keep a school in place

I see lots of positive changes going on at Newhart. The school is large but the staff is very good. My son's classes are about 30-32 kids except band which is larger. Would I like them to be smaller? Sure but in today's economic climate in CA/CUSD I am glad they aren't really big. Great music program! Teachers care about making sure that students are learning and not letting them slip through the cracks. As a member of the PTA I am on campus a lot and the biggest thing that I notice is students that are having trouble get mandatory extra help at lunch and support from teachers & the admin. My son has never been turned down by a teacher when he has asked for help and teachers have made extra time to help him before at lunch or after school. He really enjoys going to school.

Newhart is a great school because of the parent involvments and teachers. Yes it probably does not have the smallest class rooms and not all kids will get individual attention. However it is a school most kids will flourish and gain the knowledge to succeed in high school.

Academically it is an average school. There are some excellent teachers but my complaints to the principal about specific teachers fell on deaf ears. Gate classes are generally well behaved. Both of my children dropped out of band after 6th grade because too large classes didn't allow for any individual help. Both of my children experienced problems in getting electives they wanted. The afterschool drama program has been well received. The PTA is active and is open to parent involvement.

Newhart is a great school. It is looking better and better from previous years. It is a very comfortable environment for students. I felt totally comfortable sending my child to this school.

Music program -- outstanding. Even has a woodshop which 3 of our kids have all enjoyed -- a highlight of their middleschool years. Strong focus on preparing for high school and college.

Good middle school with mixed review for the teachers. Orchestra is excellent and well regarded. Academics are good overall with some extracurricular activities and mixed parent involvement.

This is a fantastic school. The teachers and staff are wonderful. They are supportive and try their best with all children. I wish they had more power to rid the classrooms of disobedient children. I have found a lot of the parents do not get involved in the school and a great deal of their children do not show respect for the teachers or staff.

I am very pleased at the level of technology my 6th grader is receiving. She can now create power point presentations and create and edit iMovies. Also as a member of the school band my child went on several field trips to watch a variety of performing arts performances. If I ever had a concern about a project or my child's grades I would simply e-mail the teacher and I would always get a response. I am very pleased with the level of academics being taught. My daughter loves going to school every morning.

Overall my boys have enjoyed Newhart Middle School. They have been challenged in their advanced classes. The music program was a little crowded for my boy's comfort. Luckily there are great electives to choose from. The woodshop program is incredible and the teacher provides great communication with the parents. Art class has been very enjoyable according to my other son.

My two sons have been with this school for almost two years now my 15 yrs just transferred to High School and 13 yrs old still there. so far this school has been known as a good name as far as academic but unfortunately there are a big lack of communication from teachers and the principal when it come to matter of assistant to your child I don't know maybe I am just picky but some incident that happenned to my child and when I need help to talk to teachers/or principal they are never there and also some of the teachers there are very mean to the kids. Otherwise if you looking for good school this is it but don't expect any courtesy from staffs and teachers.

Two of my children have attended this school. Both children have thrived. I have found homework not excessive at all. First child studied advanced courses second did not. Second childs grades have improved dramatically in his last year.Almost sent my second child to a private middle school I'm so glad that I didn't. Enthusiastic hard-working teachers. The school absolutely deserved the Blue Ribbon it received previously.
