My daughter just started kindergarten this week and I have to say I am a little disappointed with the school. There is no kind of staff or teacher assistance in the cafeteria area for the lil ones that are just starting school (kinder). If the parents are not with the child the child would not know what to do.You would think there would be a designated area for just the kindergarten kids where their would be a staff member assisting these kids.It really broke my heart because I saw some lil ones that did not know what to do like how to hold their tray or get their milk.I'm sure her parent was a working parent like me.Kindergartens kids should have their own designated area with a staff or teacher helping them at least until they can do on their own. I am so disappointed.

This elementary school made a landmark in my life. I had a great professor (Mr. Ocana) in 1983. He was tough exigent but with a clear idea of what to expect from us as kids. He used to put us to jog at least 7 laps around the big surface behind of the elementary school every day in the morning. We were all in great physical condition. He rewarded us for each success and made us feel proud of being in the US. Mr. Ocana made us aware that we could reach any dream and to overcome any type of barriers. He was extremely devoted to us and took very serious our future in society. He praised sports and multiculturalism and opened a spirit of mutual acceptance and consideration in our minds. The school had lots of kids of different ethnical origins at that time; not only Hispanics which also increased the amazing experience. In 2001 I visit Greenwood and even if nobody knew me I was still very kindly received by those who where there as staff. It is true that I passed through other schools in my elementary cycle (4) and now I proudly hold three law degrees. But I will always remember what I received from Greenwood. God bless Mr. Ocana and the school staff wherever they are.
I agree with the other parent i was a little disapointed to i wish they had a lil ceremony or something its good for the kids i think it lets them know what a good job they r doing i really they consider doning the graduation for the kids this year it would be so nice...
This is my first year at this school. So far teachers are very nice. My daughters teacher is very caring. There is an after school tutoring and there is also soccer at night. I am very happy at this school.
Frustrated with the whole calendar situation. So much effort seems to be going into the 'fight' that our childrens educational needs are being forgotten. The teachers are wonderful. The New vice Principal seems ok The principal is not around much. There is no partnership with the parents. No after school activities for the children. Teachers are great. I would like to see what the PTA is doing. They ask of so much from the kids but what do they ghet in return. A bus that is packed one time a year ? There is definetly room for improvement within the school.
I have had 2 children attend Greenwood one has moved on to Montebello Intermediate and the other is still at Greenwood. My children have had great teachers. I think that the teachers work hard at making sure that the children are doing well and that they are working to their potential and even higher. When my son left to go to MOI he was advanced to the GATE program and since then had been part of AVID I believe that this all comes from an interest from the teachers. Their teachers have had time before and after school for help. wh the new school year started my son is excited about his new teacher and class. I expect him to be able to be part of GATE by the time he has completed his years at Greenwood.
There seems to be such a line drawn over year round and traditional calendar. I wish we could concentrate on our childrens quality of education. I am really unhappy with the school these past couple of years. I wish there were some after school activities. Even some tutoring but we dont have any of this.
The school is ok. They dont go above and beyond for the children. There is no help for non English learners. That seems to be an issue with the entire district. There are no afterschool programs. The staff just seems to be there because they have to not because they want to.
Greenwood is a very nice school but with alot of students. As of this year the school has started their own choir. No sports of after hour programs. Their academic program is good for the children who are doing well. But for a child like mine that needs help there is very limited.
