End of Grade Tests (EOG)

In 2011-2012 North Carolina used End-of-Grade (EOG) tests to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math, and grades 5, 8, and 10 in science. The EOG is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of North Carolina. Students must pass the grade 8 EOG test in order to graduate from high school. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level on the tests.

This school is very disappointing. My child was not challenged to the fullest of her ability and had very little homework projects reading and of anything really. The only thing the parents do is bring in array of junk food for holiday 'parties.' There is no organization or crafts or games just a bunch of junk food thrown on a plate for the kids to eat 15 minutes before they go home. The lunch system is the worst I have ever seen. You put money on an acct and expect your child to choose lunch and not all the snacks that are offered. Children don't need donuts honey buns and ice cream at school. I never saw any of her art projects although she did enjoy her PE class. We are just trying to make it through this year and hope that middle school is a big

Parental involvement is definiyely present. There is too much emphasis on the EOGs in every school in this district anyway. There is also way too much emphasis on reading and taking Accelerated Reading books and tests. That limits the reading material for all students. That is a type of censorship that should not be employed. The art department seems to be great in 4th grade but do not see that much is done for 5th graders. This school grades the students at lunch! The lunchroom is old and echoes. The students are regularly told to be silent and each table is graded and if the grade is not perfect those students lose their recess outside! That is a shame and should be a crime. There are some really caring teachers however and that is always a plus.

This year has been an extremely unsettling year at this school. My son has currently had 3 different teachers for his classroom. There is currently very little enrichment but there are wonderful volunteers on staff. The students currently take only one school trip a year. The curriculum is so focused on EOG tests that the students take a back seat.
