California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

As a "new comer" to the area we are so genuinely impressed with the school specifically the leadership from the Principal along with the teachers. We were concerned with the low score reflected on the site especially since our children were coming from a level 8 rated school. However we have been most delighted with the caliber of children warm nurturing teaching body and programs offered at the school! Cheers to Redwood!!

this school is amazing for any 6th 7th or 8th graders

The teachers are great. They care! Communication is always encouraged and my sons teachers respond quickly and my 6th grader is adapting well to this big change. The principle is always around and makes phone reminders for imortant dates or events. I am a napa native and went to private school. This was a change but I am very pleased. Also homework club is wonderful his teachers are available after school hours on their own dime to give extra help. A+

The teachers are great but the students are not. Because of the wealthiness of the surrounding community many kids are spoiled and their academic success is low. A good school if you are looking to benefit from the academics but not very good if you plan to make many friends.

After teaching at a '10' school (Vichy Elementary) I was concerned that the caliber of teachers and commitment to excellence was going to be less than I was used to. I was proven wrong. After my third year of teaching at Redwood I can say that the teaching quality is at the same level as what I experienced at Vichy. Teachers care about the well being of their students both academically and socially. With a healthy percentage of students from backgrounds that include families from lower socio-economic subgroups Redwood performs admirably in helping those students achieve and feel good about themselves. One particular aspect of Redwoods success comes from its contraversial dress code which prohibits the wearing of 'baggy/saggy/draggy' jeans and allows only solid color tops of specific colors.

I think Redwood has an excellent program. I like the 'teams'. I feel my daughter's teacher are organized and challenge her academically. Office staff is helpful and friendly!

Great academic programs wonderfull music program fantastic clubs to help the kids interact with one another and the community

Great school! I appreciate the online information and that students can go online to access missed homework assignments. I am disappointed in the lack of student lockers. I think requiring students to carry their backpacks all day is poor planning for long term care of one's back but I do appreciate that there are two sets of books one for home and one for school.
