This is my third year in the school and it's sad to be departing from it. From the instant I stepped in those double doors in the sixth grade I knew I would like this school and I did. I have really learned more than I ever have these past few years. I just love it here.

I.S.49 is great. I am going to be an 8th grader on 9/9/09. I love it there because the teachers and students re nice and fun.

i am an 8th grader in I.S 49 enviromental studies and in a magnet class when i heard i was going to I.S 49 i kind of thought it was a bad idea but after a couple of weeks at this school i was having the best time any 8th grader will want to have their teachers are real cool the most or majority of the students are nice and fun to be with keep up the good work and keep the flag flying

I am a student in IS 49 and i believe the teachers here are a great help. Although the teachers are always there for us I still pretty much dislike it here. The students here are always fighting and I get made fun of often. Thank god i will be graduating this year but i will miss some of my teachers cause' they helped me a lot!

I am a student at IS 49 and in the eighth grade. I really do think that this school deserves more credit than it gets. The teachers are always there for extra help if you need it like during 37 and a half afterschool. There are after school programs and minors like gym drama art scanTEK robotics etc. And there are clubs you can join as well like the Journalism book club. I really do think I've learned a lot in 49. I am going to SI Tech this September and didn't take any extra classes to pass the SHSAT. Your child can really benefit from going to this school

I am a 7th grader in I.S. 49 science & tech 710.MY name is M. I think I. S. 49 is a great school. It offers a magnet program for highly motivated students. It has great afterschool programs & the security and the teachers are beoming more strict. The teachers are always there to help the students. The only reson the reputation is bad is becasue of some students who distract learning but pay theconsequences in the end.

I.S.49 has a very bad report card and is in a terrible location. My son goes there and thank god he will be graduating this year .My sons class has goos kids that want to learn and kids with behavioral issues.I'm an involved parent in my sons school . I call the school when i can't make it for any meetings with teachers or to find out info from them about my sons progress in all subjects .I wish more parents were involved in their childs schooling .I feel some teachers care and aren't there for just a check and then they are those that could care less about a student. The school also needs some more police presence around the surrounding streets during dismissal.

This school is so good. I'm a 7th grader in science & tech in magnet. The only bad thing about it some students but the school its self is so fun. The teachers are the best you can really connect with them. And you can make some cool friends. It is safe so now no kids are in the hallways.

Very good magnet program. Eligable for more children and a bigger school. Some behavioral problems with a couple of children. Needs to become an Academy school w/ strict rules and regulations. Uniform? After School? More Things for kids

IS 49 is a very good school with it offering a magnet program. It provides very good edcuation for students who want to reach good high schools like staten island tech. The teachers are very reasonable and go beyond the grade standards. I am in 7th grade and the teachers go beyond student standards like we are learning math a in our math program. The teachers are very nice to the students. Some extracurricular activities are music art gym. The magnet program report cards are high at the average is around 90 to 95. Test scores are in the high 3 and 4. This school offers a very good edcuation so this junior high school is a good school for ur child

Ok here it goes- I am a 7th grader at this school. It is overcrowded but fun. I am in a magnet class(advanced class). I have to say there is bullying and fights though. And without our staff that we have now our school would be worse. I love the school and have a lot of memories already! I couldn't ask for another school! Also we have great security guards all over and we have hall sweeps for the students that are late to class!

I am a student at is 49. I love the school . The teachers are there when you need them . I am in the science and techology section of the school . Im in a special program that most of my cousins went to the school my grades went up . I been in the school 2 years now. Some of the sudjects they offer are spanish scantech robo lab. I am the parent of a six grader at IS 49. I've had three other children to attend IS 49. All of my children did well in this school in spite of the bad element to be found there. This school is no worse than all the others. The teachers teach those who come to school to learn and teach them well. My only real concern is that due to budget cuts my son is missing out on some of the programs that his brother and sister enjoyed. In 1999 49 taught three foreign languages and music and art was avalible to all students who were interested. That is no longer the case due to budget cuts. There is only one spanish teacher for the 7&8 grade. Over all I think this school is worth consideration.
