Quality of teaching varies greatly - there are some outstanding teachers (Ms Sherry - social studies Mr. Sugarman - math Mr. Toro - music) but mostly average. There are two honors classes but academically they are following the same program. School band is outstanding - I would highly recommend to join it to any kid who is interested in music - they are playing rock jazz you name it. Even though I would like to see more challenging academic program I have to give credit to IS 7 for providing kids with very safe and nurturing environment. Parents involvement is also outstanding - your views and suggestions are always welcome. There is after school program running from 2 to 4 (this is city-wide free UAU program - it's always subject to changes based on the city funding but it was running for at least last 4 years). Overall definitely the best intermediate public school on Staten Island

My daughter was bulled by the after school program monitors and this was addressed byt he School Administation right away. Parents needs to know how to report and manage issues for thier children - after all we are their greatest advocates. Any issues not addressed by the school had to be poorly comunicated by the parent. This is an excellent school and another example of how their Administration took care of a problem right away.

My son is in his last year at IS 7 and he has had a wonderful experience. I admit I wasn t sure how my son would adjust coming from a very small "north shore" elementary school but he flourished both academically and as a young man. The teachers and administrators have high expectations of the children's behavior and academic performance. They enforce rules in a caring and nurturing way. The friends my son met are great kids. The Band programs are amazing! (Mr. Toro should be recognized for his amazing work!) Overall IS 7 is a great example that NYC public junior highs can work!

Terrible school. My daughter went there from 2008-2011. She got teased by her classmates and the teachers just look the other way. She hated that school so much that every day she will make up some excuses of not going to school. 3 years in that school was a nightmare to her.

Terrible school in terms of uncontrollable student body and administration. Many teachers are great but they are pressured to teach to the test. I found myself wanting to learn more but the school just couldn't provide. My three years here were a waste of time that could have been much better spent.

My son teaches in this school and I hear excellent things about it. I heard positive things from everybody I speak to. This school is called exceptional.

My child is new to the public school system (previously prek-5 in a catholic school) and I am very happy with the teachers and curriculum this school offers. IS 7 is much warmer and less 'dramatic' than the private school my daughter previously attended. The math and ELA program are challenging and teachers do not just pacify the kids. They help them learn in a positive environment. The kids are treated fairly. No bullying policy is standard practice. Also it's nice that they have special events like field days and fall festivals. Welcoming environment. I'm glad my daughter is at IS7.

I graduated from this school years ago and now my 2 daughters are in the school. What is not to love? The teachers staff principal all work so hard to give our children the best education. The after school program is amazing and the students themselves are wonderful. It is a wonderful caring environment that anyone would be lucky to send their children to and know they are being well taken care of and well educated!

Excelent teachers and staff. The best school my son has ever attended as compared to public private and Catholic. Very high state test scores and excellent curriculum as a teacher this school is very student centered. Warm and positive atmosphere.

My son attended IS 7 and had an excellent 3 years there. He was involved in many activities and in student government. His 8th grade class put on a wonderful performance of the play ' The Wizard of Oz' where all students were encouraged to participate. The students had a wonderful and safe time at their prom and all students looked sad of the thought of not seeing their friends after their graduation. I never saw children get along so well at a school. It was really eniightening. If you hear any bad stories about this school feel secure it didnt happen between the years of 2006-2008 because my son attended there and there were few problems. There are alot of paranoid parents on the south shore of Staten Island. Save your money and send your kids to this wonderful school in an upscale section of Staten

I'm in 6th grade and I can tell IS7 is a great school. They have so many afterschool programs plays and extra classes. The only problem is there are 8th graders who push 6th graders around in the halls.

I am a parent of a 8th grade student. My daughter has done wonderful in subjects but especially math. Her 6th and 7th grade math teachers were wonderul. Now she has a full understanding of Math. I also have a son that graduated last year. He also did well. Love this school.

Teachers are good. Unfortunately principal and assistants principal are the worst.

IS7 is a great school. I don't know why parents are complaining about kids not doing their homework it's their fault. And we do get a huge amount of homework especially in the 8th grade. Projects non-stop. Most of the teachers are really nice and theres alot going on such as events activities and others stuff so you can always have some pretty cool things to choose from. It's overall a great school with great teachers.
