I love this school! I unfortunately had to leave in 3rd grade. When we came back to New York I wished it was both an elementary and middle school. Mr.Spatola is a great principal. The teachers and staff are really nice. It has a great arts program. Sometimes I still visit during summer school so I could see my music teacher and the staff that say how much I've grown. My mom went there when Mr.Spatola was still there. I wish I could go there forever. Amazing school. I wish I could give it 100 stars.

PS 172 is an amazing school with great leaders within the teaching/ support staff PTA and most importantly the students. My daughter has been a student since kindergarten and is now in 2nd grade. Every teacher she has had has been amazing friendly and dedicated to ensuring that she and her classmates reach their potential. My daughter tested for G&T the past 2 years but I have not changed her because this school is one of the best in all of NYC. The PTA really make a difference. The recent board has been really great at creating fun and enriching programs/ events which bring the community together. This is definitely the best school in Brooklyn!

Public school education doesn't get a lot better than this especially in early childhood. From the principal right down to the custodial staff everyone here is focused on providing the best learning environment our kids can get. This school was one of the top five reasons we purchased a home in the neighborhood.

My children go to this school and we love it. Education is of the level of a gifted and talented program and is geared specifically to each child.

I am very happy at PS172. I know my children are getting a top notch education in a safe caring environment that will address my concerns and their individual needs. At a time when the curriculum and testing has become so tough its nice to know my kids won't be left behind.

P.S. 172 is one of New York City's public school gems! Under the long-term leadership of G. Jack Spatola the school and its dynamic group of incredibly hard working teachers/staff do a phenomenal job of providing a fun and safe space that inspires our children to learn and be creative. Parents are welcomed and can often be found volunteering in many ways an under-resourced public school needs help from translating for other families to planning fun family events. I am so very grateful that our family has been able to be part of the truly special PS 172 community. It's not perfect but it is constantly improving and that is a great thing to be a part of. We love PS 172!!!

P.S. 172 is a wonderful school and could not be lead by a better leader. Mr. Spatola he highly invest in making this school reach above & beyond the typical standards of a public elementary school. The faculty is great & the PTA staff is incredible. The meetings are informative & their continuous efforts at involving parents is wonderful. My son is now in 2nd grade & loves his teachers. I'm proud to have him attend this fantastic magnet school for leadership!

I am very happy that my children attend PS 172 and that we are part of this great school community. My children are happy to go to school and love their teachers and Principal. Each learner is treated as an individual and when my child is in need of extra attention they are given the support they need in a small group setting or in after school enrichment. Each classroom has an extra teacher that pushes in for small group support in reading writing and math. They even have Saturday school for third grade and up. The entire school starts and ends at the same time each day because the dedicated staff voted to keep all students from 8 15 until 3 05 including pre-k. The school offers PE Dance science music and reader's theater to all students. They have a new playground in the school yard where the children have outdoor recess daily if weather permits. I am extremely proud that my children attend PS 172 and know they are given an excellent education.

This school reminds me of when I was in elementary. Filled with enthusiastic teachers/staff welling and able to give students and parents 150% of themselves to insure the progress of the kids. So rare in brooklyn. PS 172 is the true jem of our community.

I recently registered my daughter to this school. This was our number one choice and we are very happy she was accepted. The principal and staff are always helpful and kind. I look forward to my daughter starting school in the fall.

I am pleased with my son's progress in school. My son who is currently in Ms. Minerva's class loves her and coming to school. At first I didn't know what to expect from my son being so shy. Thanks to her and the support from home he has become a confident kid and loves reading. Thankyou Ms. Minerva your the best. Love the Michel Family.

I HAD such high expectations for this school until I applied for my daughter for kindergarten. My daughter was given an assessment which a kindergarten student is given mid year on the grade. All of this pressure to receive a notice in the mail that there wasn't any space for out of zone students.....but wait it gets better. I KNOW people who live out of zone who WERE accepted. I have a feeling that they choose according to how students do on this assessment and its UNFAIR!!!! If every school could choose its students like this then they would ALL be on the news for having the highest scores. Don't get me wrong it seems to be a good school but if your child is a 1 or 2....chances are they won't get in! If parents have experienced a similar situation please feel free to respond.

We were one of the lucky families that was able to chose the neighborhood we live in and we chose based solely on this school. I am surprised by the review that states "staff can work harder". Having worked in many schools I can say this staff goes well beyond what is expected teachers go well beyond what they are limited to by the UFT doing everything in their power to make sure every child regardless of language or special needs becomes a proficient self-directed learner. The staff and Mr. Spatola in particular are an absolute inspiration. My kids love going to school and they have learned so much. Every school could learn something from P.S. 172. Plus you don't get to be the #1 school in ALL of New York City unless you are working really hard.

We are still new to this school. I find it ok; however not pleased with the fact that there are no consistent afterschool enrichment programs. I believe that the staff can work harder on recruiting good affordable programs that will expand kids abilities beyond passing State exams. Parents who work fulltime and who believe in enrichment will be very frustrated.
