Standards of Learning End-of-Course (SOLEOC)

In 2011-2012 Virginia used the Standards of Learning (SOL) End-of-Course tests to assess students in reading, writing, math, science and history/social science subjects at the end of each course, regardless of the student's grade level. The SOL End-of-Course tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Virginia. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

I have found it a struggle to get by at this school. I'm an army kid and I have been to a 3 other high schools and this one is the worst. I moved in the middle of the year and I felt alienated. My teachers did not get me up to date with what I needed to learn leading to my failure in a class and low grades in others. And half the teachers are just not good at teaching. The student body I mainly made up of kids that really don't care. Some don't care about their grades leading to classroom distraction and others just do not care about their actions leading to fights and conflict. I don't go a day were I am not nudged our of the way in the hall or given a dirty look by a random passerby. I was put into the drama program and the program is very good. The teachers are loving and supportive and most of the students in the drama department are great to be around.

Woodside is amazing! It isn't just a school its a place a grow and perform. There is so much diversity! I've never seen so many different children get along so well. And we had over 12% more than any other Newport News school in reaching our 3.0 G.P.A. quota. Woodside is the best school ever! I couldn't of ask for a better school!

I love Woodside! The people who say its overpopulated are CLAUSTROPHOBIC! I love the diversity and respect everyone has! The teachers are awesome and the "no parents" complaint isnt realistic. the teachers are training us to be college students trying to get us into Georgetown Harvard CNU and Yale! They really do care and the reason why we have the "no parent" complaint is because we are learning to be independent we have to learn from ou mistakes and sometimes we have to decide things for ourselves! Im so glad our principal this year is Mstilly. I love her! She is fair and doesnt hover!! I LOVE WOODSIDE!!!!

i went to the school for a little bit then i had to move to phoebus this is a wonderful school and i loved it here the students are more diverse which is nice and the teachers are alot more understanding and caring for their students

Woodside is an amazing school! I'm in the music magnet (violin and love it! I love playing music with my friend and I'm happy that woodside has provided us musicians a place to express ourselves everyday. The music teachers are very respected and loved by all of their students. I feel like I couldn't have been in this enviornment if I went to any other kind of High School beside Woodisde. - thank you woodside!

This is my Second year attending Woodside High School I think that Woodside is one of the best schools' in Newport news because unlike other schools in Newport News woodside is a tight knit community and everyone at woodside is respectable also the principal Mrs. Tilley is great! she treats us students like her own kids and when I was having problems Freshmen year she was there for me !

woodside high skool is a wonderful skool it taught my child to be independent about there academics

My daughter attends Woodside and is in the Arts Magnet program. I think the program is great the school is pretty good. Like all Newport News High Schools it has it's share of problems. Ms Tilly has really tried to bring about change for the better. The teachers are really committed to the kids and the extra activities that they offer.

I'm going to be a sophomore at Woodside next year after experiencing my frshamn year I can easily say this school will put my life's goals into action Mrs. Tilly the new principal is amazing and has really brought Woodside pride through the roof. Most the teachers can be a friend and still teach while implimenting discipline when necessary. IT is the ONLY school inNewport News that can hang with York County's standards.

I attended Woodside High School for the first part of my freshman year in the Band arts magnet and now attend Denbigh High School.I can say that the social situation at Woodside is poor and the drama is intence and everything is very impersonal. At Denbigh it is a more tight knit community and there is not half the problem I had at Woodside.

I currently attend Woodside High School and I've enjoyed the three years that I've been here. The teachers are very friendly and take the time to work with you before and after school. Woodside/Hoodside goes to hard! l0ls.

This is the best school i have ever attended. One cannot expect a public school to stand up to the academic and behavior standards of a private school so it is not right to compare the two. This is an excellent school and the new principal is doing wonders for school pride and adcademic standards.

I've been at Woodside since my freshman year. I'm a junior and I love the music program there. Woodside also helps you pick a career you want to do in the future.

I have 2 sons at Woodside and a 3rd that will be going there for 07/08 school year. While I believe it is probably one of the better schools in the area I also believe it is still not as good as it should be . It is over populated kids that need discipline rarely get it but kids that make minimal mistakes get the book thrown at them. The admin. is also very slow in letting parents know when something is worthy of parental intervention example skipping.one of my boys had accumulated 68 skipped periods before we found out and that was only because we found out . The school did not notify us. Most of the teachers appear to care about the kids academic performance.

We have moved a lot and found this school to be poor. The school is over populated. There are a lot of students who don't care about their actions their school work or their piers. The principal is never present. I'm not sure if there is one. There are too many negative distractions to achieve learning. A school is only as good as the community it is in.

EXCELLENT!! As a student for 2 years this is the best school I ever went to. The atmosphere is amazon and the teachers are very helpful in achieving your dreams. This is a wonderful school and I would really recommend it!!

I think the quality of academic programs is better than most schools in this area although not anything to brag about. There are many extracurricular activities here which are well developed. Parents hardly ever get involved because the teachers and staff just don't listen.

Excellent school. Great teachers that really care. The magnet program is great. You won't be dissapointed if you send your child here. Coach Hare is great if your kids are involved in athletics.

I went to Woodside High as a freshman and half of my sophmore year. I had to move due to military. I miss Woodside High. It was such a great school and i learned so much. The programs they have to offer are also so wonderful. There is wide variety of AP and honors classes to fit the needs of any student.
