NMS is so far as I can see excellent. Teachers who are never to busy to answer your questions. My son is new and has some learning support classes as well as inclusion for autism and couln't be happier with keeping in touch with teachers to plan my sons needs. I have met all teachers at Back to school night and they as well as students assisting were polite and friendly. Kudo's to Mrs. Ashe and assistant who are truly caring. I also love fact that kids have alot more PE activity such as biking in Tyler state park in fall( which they accomodated and let my son bring in a specialty cruiser bike) and inline skating in winter not just weekly but 5 days total every 2 weeks! I am a firm believer exercize strengthens brain. I am pleased so far! Best move I made and my kids were already in a great charter school in Philly. Very fortunate to be able to live in Richboro. Worth the taxes! Colleen and Jim Drew Richboro
This is one of the best schools... if you want your child to be harassed.
My rating is based on the quality of the teachers. They are the best paid in the state of Pennsylvania. They ought to act like it. Many of the teachers make no effort to help the students beyond their scheduled "clinic" time which is usually only two days a week after school. The teachers generally expect the kids to regurgitate volumes of information without making the classes fun or even interesting. One science teacher and one english teacher did in fact make their classes fun and my kids actually looked forward to those classes. Most other classes they dreaded. One child suffered through a social studies teacher that consistenly lost students papers/quizzes etc. The teacher made my child retake a quiz 4 times because she kept misplacing it. Seems to me these teachers should have a higher level of performance based on their pay levels.
This school is one more block in the excellent educational infrastructure that exists in Newtown. Teachers here are all proficient and are led by a competent team of Principal and Assistant Principal. Students are given every chance to succeed as evidenced by the after-school clinics offered after school in practically every subject. In addition to the usual sports and clubs the school hosts a couple of dances each year as well as one evening that features the musical talents of students. Since Newtown Middle School is comprised only of 7th and 8th graders (it used to include 9th grade also) it is a manageable student body. The students seem to work cooperatively and amicably among themselves and overall student conflicts are minimal or non-existent.
