I am an administrator in a different school district but we live in North Canton because of its schools. The middle school administrators and staff are outstanding for the most part although there are a few exceptions (as there are in every school no matter how great). Regarding the previous reviewer's comment that she is considering another district--she should do that and see how it compares. Want to home school your child? Go ahead and see how your child likes staying home with you every day. Sorry that's the administrator in me venting.

I have one student currently at NCMS and one who previously attended several years ago. I am very pleased with the new principal and one of the guidance counselors that came from Greentown a year ago. I feel blessed to be in a district with an excellent orchestra with an excellent teacher although the classroom is not suitable for the orchestra students or their teacher. Also I feel these kids do not get the attention they deserve. All the emphasis is on sports in North Canton and not nearly enough if any emphasis is given to the orchestra. There are MANY of the teachers here that need to go and go NOW. They were horrible teachers when my older child was there they are still horrible. The parents are stuck up and it reflects in their kids. Seriously considering another district or home school for my child in 2012-13.
One of the best districts if not the best district in Ohio. Staff and administration is excellent. For a school of this size it does a very good job trying to meet the needs of every student. There are an enormous amount of extracurriculars and clubs for you child to get involved in as well. It was rated one of the top 100 cities/schools in the country! Excellent or Excellent with distinction on their report card for the past 10 years. I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants their child to get the best education available.
I have always been pleased with the NCMS system until Middle School. If your child isn't a cutout of the majority of students here they will be treated as different by their peers as well as the staff. I do not feel that the teachers or administration are in touch with the pressures or experiences of children @ the crossroads of puberty & are unsympathetic except for the counselors ( Thank God for that ) The clicks drama & bulling that goes on on the surface is not dealt with by the staff or even acknowledged as far as I have seen. I teach my children to be expressive individuals which has not been well received in the Middle school. It seems my child has been lumped in a group with the troubled kids based on style ALONE!
While the school has good academics & extracurriculars they ony work well with "normal" children. My oldest son was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while attending the school & rather than work with him they tried to expel him twice (for things that weren't even expulsion-worthy). Thankfully the district superintendant overruled the principal. Really I think the principal is the real problem as all the other staff seemed sympathetic to our issues. Thankfully he's retiring this year and I've only heard good things about the incoming principal. My younger son who is gifted and has no behavior/mental health issues has had no problem whatsoever at the school and really enjoys the gifted & advanced classes they offer. If you have a special-needs child you may want to look elsewhere but if your child is normal or gifted it's a great school.
NCMS is an excellent school. My kids are very successful and they are receiving an excellent education. The staff is superior!!
I am a current 8th grader at ncms and i feel this is the best school on the whole eastern side of the unsited states. The teachers are friendly helpful caring and willing to help you at everything. They have a great way of making a student feel special. The students are friendly and helpful. Everyone is willing to be friend! the best school is north canton middle school!
Most of the staff is reactive instead of proactive. They seem to be more worried about the test scores than the kids. Some teams are way better than the others so do your homework. Kids with special needs might be better served in another district as their special ed program is terrible. The guidance department leaves a lot to be desired. No ESL services. Low kids fall through the cracks and discipline problems spend tons of time in the office once the state testing is over. Teachers don't seem to know what to do with kids that are a little rough around the edges. Sports rule the roost.
i am a current 7th grade student at ncms. it is a wonderful school. they teachers are great. we have good after school programs we have great sports good food and a great band choir and orchestra. i would most derfinatly send my child to this school its amazing. )
North Canton Middle school is a nice place to go to school. THe teachers are great and so are all the programs. The 'teams' are also a great concept creating a closer-knit environment in a large-school setting. As a former student of North Canton Middle School i would reccomend NCMS to any parent looking for excellence in all areas of a school.
North Canton is a great community.
I am a current student at NCMS (North Canton Middle School)in the 6th grade. If you are thinking of sending you child here it is a great idea! I have an older brother go through NCMS and he is now a freshman at Hoover. All of the staff is friendly and nice and willing to help you whenever!
