This school simply has a low tolerance for students. THey seem to be hard knocks here and very little room for students who fall behind. Even when seeking help from the guidance department they have little help for parents. It is sad when as a parent you see your child failing and they pretty much put you off and tell you there are no options for your child no one here jumps into action to help a failing child even when they see a problem right out of the gate in the first quarter. I regret moving here to this town. Very unfortunate!

I agree quite a bit with the reviewer below. I think they lack quality administrators probably due to funding. The taxes we pay are so out of proportion to the educational funding. I have found the elementary school to have some very talented dedicated teachers. As a parent you need to navigate through making sure you get the best teacher for your child. I have been fortunate with our teachers but at times I wished we moved to a lower taxed community and sent them to least for high school. With the socioeconomics of our community you'd expect a higher performance. Many elementary teachers deserve a five but as a district it falls short.

North Smithfield is an affluent community with bright kids. This school should be one of the highest achieving schools in the state. The town is always driven by spending the least amount of money and the kids suffer for it. The town consistently hires the cheapest and least experienced administrators and consequently many administrators lack talent and intelligence and there is a huge leadership gap. Many students graduate without having basic skills. Take a look at some of the writing on some of the comments here of people who identify themselves as graduates and you will see what I mean. North Smithfield schools used to be among the best in the state yet are no longer. Moving into this town was a mistake for my family.

I am a former student at NSHS well actully when i was there it was north smithfeild junior senior high school. NSJSHS! i loved the teachers when i was there and i miss everything about the classes i took the friends i made i will so send my kids there one day. and i have to disagree about the group home and being a bad influence on the kids because kids are a bad influcene on their selves they contorl THEIR actions no one does it for them students have to take responibility for their actions and stop blaming everyone else for your child behavior ('07)

I am a past graduate (Class of '74) and am currently the parent of a senior (Class of '05) and I couldn't disagree more with the two reviews that are here. I have found the staff to be well-educated and caring and the facility itself to be immaculate whenever I have attended any functions at the school. I think that the administration and faculty are working hard towards a well-rounded curriculum that can impact all of the student population. From my own college experiences as well as my daughter's bright plans I feel that the school produces highly motivated well prepared citizens. If people are unhappy with particular aspects of the school atmosphere perhaps they should volunteer to help affect a change.

I am very disappointed in the school system lately. Administrators are leaving at an alarming rate. We are also one of the few systems that start school after Labor Day. The past superintendent was incompetent and should have been let go a long time ago. There are teachers who should be let go also. They should be held accountable for the lack of education in their students. A teacher's continued employment should be directly related to the success of his/her students.

I was a student at North Smithfield High School for 7 years and I had some good experiences and bad. If I had the choice to chose Woonsocket over this school system I would. North Smithfield High needs to be redone. The lockers are begining to break and the classrooms are a mess. The school is too small. During pep rally's the sudents would be sitting on the floor. Also it is also impossible to have fun in that school. All the facualty did was punish students for every little thing. I remember getting written up for saying 'whatever' The only good thing about that school was the music system. Band and music is the only thing that I miss about that school.

I am very unhappy with the N. Smithfiled school system. Children who are living in a nearby group home called Sakonnet are sent to the N. Smithfield school system. These children are very troubled children and are bad influences on the other children in the school. I would also like to mention that when your child is having problems in school academically they are sent home a deficiency but by this time of receiving the deficiency there is nothing you or the child can do to improve there grade they are not given an opportunity to make up or redo work because it is 'to late' in the quarter. Therefore your hands are tied and your child fails. Every year at the start of school the schools opening has been delayed for the last aleast 4 years. With strike heating problems and mold problems.
