California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I attended NHS from 99-03. It was the best 4 years of my life! I transferred to Norwalk High from Bell High. I lived in Maywood for 13 years and Norwalk was the best choice my parents could have made for my sisters and I. Norwalk was a big change but a great one with the school being a traditional school Sept - June. Less vacation than an year round school like Bell. The teachers were great! My graduation class was one of the largest in Norwalk History. Our Counselors were great at meeting with us on one on ones. The Principal and School Board Members would sit in and observe our classes. My sisters graduated in 2009 and 2011. They both went on to pursue degrees in History and Psychology with respectable Higher Education Institutions. I have worked for the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles as an Adminsitratice Assistant for Upper Management. I am now working for a World-Renowned Research Institute with the top 5 funding from the NIH as a Pre-Award Specialist. If it wasn't for the great teachers and counselors of Norwalk High School we would not have had these great opportunities now. Norwalk is as great of a school as any other as long as your child makes it.

People talked about how this school is so bad before. Now its better then ever. The staff and principal tried their hardest and encouraged us and motivated us to do better.Especially with our test scores. It's not the schools fault they get kids that don't want to do anything and don't want to listen and slack off and not want to graduate.Just because of test scores this school is bad?No its the kids who don't try and get sent to El Camino. We now have a new principal and more new staff members and their always on the quad trying to motivate us to get to class earlier and getting to know us.Norwalk made a lot of changes over the years and now its better than ever!I love this school!Been here all my high school years and about to graduate.Honestly I learned so much the teachers are so great and staff too and the new principal also. He's just trying to make it better and this school will be even more better over the years!!CLASS OF 2013

I graduated from this school 3 years ago before the renovations and such. I was not happy with the school while I first attended there but over the years I met all sorts of wonderful people staff and students. I believe Norwalk High is an okay place to have you son or daughter go to school there because the staff is only trying to make it better and the students are waiting to make new friends. The reason why I say its an okay school is because after I graduated I went to a UC and well academically I was behind the other students. I was told that the teaching and overall class ratings have gone up but if not just means for those students who want to attend a 4-year university then go to Cerritos College as well. I will always cherish the memories!! PURPLE & GOLD!!

good school; up to students and parents if they want to succeed and attend a 4 year college; further education available if you work towards it otherwise you will fail.

Our child was really looking forward to this school year. She never had ANY problems before. Now their are tears every week. Parents need to visit the classrooms. They need to go to real rooms not new science place they show off. Classes are so large you cannot move around. The rooms are dirty and do not look like they are new construction like they brag about. The restrooms are disgusting. You cannot find the counselors. At lunch it is as crowded as the classrooms. There is no place to move. We are on the border line and will return to the other district. Checking out next week. Thank you. We are glad we found this place and could find something better.

Norwalk High School is a wonderful place to learn. The school is in the final stages of major renovations and improvements. All the classrooms have air conditioning new cabinetry tile etc. There is a new science building with an abundance of lab stations. There is a new math building and the department is integrating technology as they work together to increase student learning. There is a brand new library with state of the art MACs. There is a career center that had multiple job postings within the first week of the school year. There are various Advanced Placement courses available to challenge the top students. There are also systems in place to support academically struggling students. Norwalk has one of the best recycling programs in the county. Students can join various academic academies. There is a huge amount of ROP courses offered in computers wood auto etc. In short NHS rocks!

I went to Norwalk 9th and 10th grade and I have to say after transferring to Wilson High nowhere can you find such a strong willing and spirited staff. When you walk in you can feel the warmth because of the environment the staff sets for the students. With out a doubt if the student devoted half the time they spend on Norwalk Spirt on doing their homework I can proudly say we have something going for us.

This school has been very helpful to me. Even though the test scores aren't that good. There are people who actually care for us. Sometimes we have problems at home and the counselors are always there to help us out. It's a very good school and I love it!

I am an Alumnus from Norwalk High school. I graduated 05 and would like to say that it is a good school. I took advantage of the very little that they had and it got me into the number one public institution in the country UC Berkeley.

Norwalk High School is the best school for all kids. There are hundreds of extra curricular activities. If your child wants to learn this school gives a great education.

I have involved myself in councils in order to find out the happening s of the school there is not much contact with the parents. Inregards to the academics our scores show that we are improving but to completely improve it takes time. Sports program worries me lots of practice but no improvement on playing.

I went to Norwalk High School and I belive that it is a good school Mostly hispanic populated however a good group of kids. the staff does a wonderful job for what they have. The teachers care and they want students to graduate.

I go to Norwalk and it is really a great school. So many activities there it has a lot of activities that most schools don't have. The reason why the score is low is because most of the students don't try. Don't blame the school. The school is great. It is only low because the parents don't push their kids hard enough to study instead they let them go out with their friends.

I was a student at norwalk and the principal was not a real leader because he did not let students express them selves the security was not helpfull at all they would harrass the students instead of helping them. students were not motivated by the school to go out and give to their community. they would rather have recruters come in and sign us up for the army. this school did nothing for me the only people that did anything to help the students were teachers but not alll the teachers some of them were really racist and old they did not motivate the students at all. students who are unmotivated to be active in school quicly loose interes.

I student taught here. This school has a great environment the teachers really care about the kids and the administration is outstanding. They have so many activities. There is a club for every student. The one thing I noticed is that nearly every kid was involved in some after school activity.

The kids may be having 'fun' and that's why they're ranking this school highly but the test scores scream out that these students are failing miserably. I'm a parent of two and after seeing the rankings of Norwalk's highschools I plan on selling my home and moving elsewhere when my kids reach that age. I thank God I found this website to help me in a search for better schools.

I recently graduated from this school just this June (2003) and it's been a great experience. Norwalk will always be a place that I'll look back on for good memories. The students friends teachers faculty and even the security were what made my years the greatest years of my life. Norwalk is a great school.
