This school is overcrowded and average at best. Every tear after the first nine weeks every student in the school has a schedule change because the fail to hire enough teachers over the summer. The Principal created this nightmare of a concept called Power Hour where the students basically have an hour in the middle of the day to socialize. She is not open to any ideas that are not her own and is poor at decision making. The Assistant Principal for Curriculum is fabulous. She really listens is solution driven cares about students and is the workhorse of the school. Other than that I can't wait till my son graduates from the chaotic circus of this school.

They offer so much... you need to take advantage of it though. They don't make you do it. Power Hour is a great idea. (again if you take advantage of the time.) Go West Port Band!!! State is calling you. 2014 Marching Band is great this year.

Amazing school with teachers who really want you to succeed and our principal is nominated for the best principal in the nation she is a top 3 finalist as of now West Port High School is a model school for the country as many principales from around the nation have toured the school to see how Mrs. Ellspermen runs her school of at least 2700 kids

I attend West Port and in this coming school year I will be a sophomore. This school is just absolutely amazing and I wouldn't go to any other high school. When I was a freshman I very much enjoyed Power Hour because I could go to my teachers for help or finish up an assignment. This school is one of the best and I suggest if you send your children there then you won't regret it.

We have been a part of West Port High School for a total of six years with our two children. We can not say enough about the exemplary leadership tremendous support dedication and constant encouragement of the principal teachers and staff at West Port High School. They are all about helping each and every student succeed. This is the only school in the district that has received an "A" rating for three straight years. A few advantages this school has is a lunch "Power Hour" which allows students time to visit with various teachers for extra help with schoolwork/ homework if needed. The early college program with College of Central Florida is awesome! Most of the college courses are taught right at West Port which allowed our children to graduate with their Associates in Arts degrees before graduating high school! West Port is a magnet school for the Arts all excellent and award winning programs. More than half of the last graduating class graduated with honors. That says a lot about how dedicated the staff at West Port High School is to helping students succeed. We highly recommend West Port High School and are proud to have been a part of this great school.

As an educator (not at this school) I can definitely say that this Marion County high school has made great strides in the last 5-6 years with tremendous improvement. This is totally due to the dedication of the principal who is an excellent leader the supportive staff and the amazing teachers. Because of the various improvements in curriculum offerings I transferred my child to West Port . With the encouragement and support from teachers and staff she made friends and joined various groups (from arts to academics). This allowed her to meet students and learn from students from very different walks of life. She absolutely thrived there where failure was not an option. I saw student participation at athletic events art dance and theatre events and other school functions. The success of Power hour is definitely the talk of Marion county! I have worked in education for 30 years in middle schools high schools and universities. I know that it takes the support of the staff teachers and students to make Power Hour work. After my child graduated I continued to serve on the SAC committee because I see the difference this school is making in a lot of children's lives!

As a student at West Port High School I believe West Port is the best high school in the state of Florida. West Port High provides student with multiple programs like MCCA and the Early College Program. The teachers administration and staff at West Port are always there for the students. Being at West Port does not just feel like going to school it feels like being apart of a great big loving family. No student is left behind! Being a student at West Port is such a privilege and I can say I am proud to say I am apart of West Port High School!! GOOOOOOO WOLFPACK!!!!!!!!

This is the first time I see a graduation school with 99% of the student with suma and cum laudes. Why? Compared to American schools overseas this school is below average. The school allows students to retake test as many times in order to get grants and laudes. No wander all students are cum laudes.

West Port High School is a great school in the State of Florida that cares about every student. The principal is a great leader leading the school to a record 3 consecutive "A" school ratings. I highly recommend West Port to any parent looking for an outstanding school in the area.

West Port is a large school with lots to offer academically motivated students. My daughter has thrived in the fast-paced setting of AP band and the Early College program the only high school in the area to offer this on-site dual enrollment option. Her teachers are tough but fair and she has plenty of friends with interests similar to hers. West Port is a wonderful public school one that I highly recommend to any parent.

THE Best of the Best~ Year after Year~ Excellent Principal and Staff...As a parent will not want to go any place else...I serve on the School Advisory Council and its truly a joy to be part of the school! Discipline issues are handle quickly and efficiently students are there to learn and be productive not time for anything else...They have "power hour" that enables the students and the teachers to interact during lunch in order to get ahead or make up work and it has greatly enhanced the students grades and learning abilities! I welcome you to come and see West Port High School... After all how can you not visit the ONLY school in the district that has a State rating of an "A" for three consecutive years!

It is an honor to attend West Port High School! The teachers and staff are extremely supportive loving and dedicated to all of their students. Staff members are enforcing discipline more and more everyday to help improve the quality of our school for the better. The opportunity to have Power Hour is a gift for me to attend meetings or even start homework since I have a part time job. Marion County Center for the Arts (MCCA) is a great program to be apart of at West Port as a part of the chorus. But that's not all I even get the chance to earn my AA on West Port's campus! There is no other comparison in our area! I love West Port and GO WOLF PACK!

West Port High School truly is the place to be. With over 2 500 students on campus during the 2013-2014 School Year we continue to be an example for the rest of Marion County. We have a dedicated and motivated faculty and staff ready to engage students at all times. This school has over 30 different clubs organizations and sports that everyone is encouraged to join. We also have Power Hour in which students can go visit a teacher to discuss and work on projects and assignments attend club meetings have lunch and socialize. Has a student here I can personally tell you that West Port has so many great attributes it's hard to type them all out. This school is a place to be creative explore yourself and create new boundaries for yourself. Everyone has potential and West Port helps you discover it. To top it all off we are an "A" School for the third year in a row with National Ranking! Other Things To Take Note Of -Early College Program w/ College of Central Florida -Only school w/ Marion County Center for the Arts -Army JROTC Program -Agriculture Department/FFA There is no better school than West Port High School. GO WOLF PACK!!!!!!

I was a student at this school according to the other reviews most of them were submitted by teachers who probably just mant to make this school look better than it actually is. Teachers are okay depending on who you get but the students can be pretty rude. I have to say that the school takes great pride in power hour and it gives me a great oppurtunity to keep up with my schoolwork. This is probably one of the only things I like about this school. Everyone is in their 'cliques' so outcasts aren't being welcomed. Not to mention all the bad influence. I also recognize the lack of school spirit. Nobody comes to the games because our principal doesn't always announce when the games are so there is little support. I was totally disappointed and it would be an embarrassment to graduate from a school like this. This school pretends to have pride and spirit but lacks greatly in it. I think someone needs to step up and get this school fixed! -- From an 'A' student that is being honest

This high school is the best high school in the county (and possibly in the state!! ) The teachers work very hard to provide a strong academic environment. They also try to develop positive relationships with the students. My son has excelled at West Port High School and is well prepared for his future. The Marion County Center for the Arts is the greatest program I've ever had the privilege to be involved with. The teachers selflessly give many long hours to make the program the best experience for their students! I love West Port!!

West Port caters to the needs of all the students that attend. I find this school able to maintain high standards in academics while having a complete focus on extracurricular activites. Definitely an A school and has earned that reputation

West Port is the highest performing high school in the district. They offer unique educational opportunities for students including Early College the Marion Counter Center for the Arts and a Biomedical Track. Additonal opportunities include industry certifications in the CNA program and Criminology. The faculty works tirelessly to insure that all students are successful and the main focus of the administration is College Readiness. Students have a unique opportunity to take advantage of Power Hour. This designated time block occurs concurrently with the luch schedule and gives students the chance to join clubs access remediation and enrichment opportunities and fellowship with others. This is an outstanding institution which has served as a model for other high schools in the district.
